Your transition matters. Notice how I didn’t pluralize the word “transition.” This is because you should only be using a single kind of transition per presentation.

Avoid using the word, “presentation.” Every time you say, “I’m here to give you a presentation on X,” or, “In this presentation, you’ll see…,” you are emphasizing the formal, structured, sometimes artificial nature of the interaction. For many large-group events, speakers are provided with what’s called a “confidence monitor,” a computer screen that sits on the floor at the speaker’s feet showing the slide that appears on the large screen above the speaker’s head. Avoid using confidence monitors. Our natural inclination when using a confidence monitor is to gesture at the bullet point we’re discussing at the moment. However, we are pointing to a bullet point on the screen at our feet, which the audience can’t see, so it creates a disconnect between us and the audience. Instead, stand to the side of the large screen and gesture at the bullet point you’re talking about so that the audience knows which point you are discussing at the moment.
4. Don’t tell your audience, “I want this to be interactive.” It’s your job to make it interactive. If you are delivering the type of presentation where your audience size allows you to create true engagement with your listeners, create that connecting in stages to “warm up” the audience. Stage One engagement is to ask the audience a question relevant to your topic that you know most of the audience members can respond to affirmatively. “Who here has ever bought a new car?” or, “How many of you have ever waited more than 5 minutes on hold on a customer service line?” Raise your hand as you ask the question to indicate to the audience how to respond. Whoever has raised their hand has now participated in the discussion. They have indicated a willingness to engage. Stage Two engagement is calling on one of the people who raised their hand and asking a specific, perfunctory question. Again, it needs to be a question they can answer easily. If your first questions is, “Who here has bought a new car?” you can then call on someone and ask, “How long ago,” or “What kind of car did you buy most recently?” If your first question was, “Have you ever waited on hold for more than 5 minutes,” you can’t ask, “What company were you calling at the time?” The people who raised their hands weren’t thinking of a specific instance; they were just thinking broadly about that type of experience. You could, however, call on someone and ask, “Do you prefer when they play music or ads for the company’s products?” Anyone can answer that question. At that point, you are in an actual dialogue with that person. Stage Three engagement is asking them a question where they need to reveal something more personal. “How does that make you feel when you hear those ads?” You’ve warmed up your audience and drawn them in with baby steps. Now you have actual, meaningful audience participation.

5. Use gestures. When we’re speaking in an informal setting, we all use hand gestures; some people use more than others, but we all use them. When we try to rein in our gestures, two things happen that diminish our speaking style. First, we look stiff and unnatural. We look like we are presenting a guarded or cautious version of ourselves; we look less genuine. Second, hand gestures burn up the nervous energy we all have when speaking in front of a large group. That’s good. When we try to minimize our hand gestures, we tie up that nervous energy and it starts to leak out on odd ways, where we start to tap our foot, fidget with our notes or microphone, or tilt our head side to side to emphasize key points. Just let the gestures fly. It’s unlikely they will be too large or distracting. I have coached people on their presentation skills for 26 years. In that time, I have met three people who gestured too much. Everyone else would benefit from using their gestures more freely.
The impact we have as communicators is based on the cumulative effect of many different elements of our delivery. These suggestions alone won’t make you a terrific presenter. They will, however, add to the overall package your present of yourself when speaking to large audiences.

At Microsoft Build 2024 , we’re excited to announce a host of new powerful capabilities in Microsoft Copilot Studio —t he single conversational AI tool you can use to create your very own custom copilots or extend Microsoft C opilot experiences with your own enterprise data and scenarios. For instance, consider the potential of a copilot that can react when an email arrives, look up the sender’s details, see their previous communications, and use generative AI to trigger the appropriate chain of actions in their response. From understanding the intent of the email, to look ing up the sender’s details and account , see ing their previous communications, checking inventory, responding to the sender asking for their preferences, and then taking the appropriate actions to close a ticket — orchestrating and shepherding an entire process over days.
With such capabilities, copilots are evolving from those that work with you to those that work for you. They can be designed to handle specific roles or functions, such as IT, marketing, sales, customer success, and finance across various industries, including travel, retail, and financial services.

The se advanced new capabilities in Copilot Studio are currently accessible to customers participating in an Early Access Preview where organizations such as Centro de la Familia are excited to explore agent capabilities that support teachers and case workers, allowing them to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time working with children, ultimately leading to better child outcomes . Based on feedback from program participants, we will continue to iterate and refine these capabilities for broader access in a preview planned for later this year .

Starting in June 2024, developers can access the public preview for Copilot connectors and stay informed on updates here .
Conversational analytics (private preview) : One of the most common asks from customers has been the need for deeper insight into what their copilot is doing, how generative AI is responding, when it was unable to give the right answers and why — and recommendations on what to do to improve it.
Enhanced security and controls (public preview ) : Administrators can now configure advanced settings beyond the default security measures and controls. With Microsoft Purview , Copilot Studio administrators gain access to more detailed governance tools, including audit logs, inventory capabilities, and sensitivity labels. They will be able to review comprehensive audit logs that cover tenant-wide usage, inventory (with API support), and tenant hygiene (such as data loss prevention violations and inactive copilots), enabling them to effectively monitor business impact. Both creators and end-users will be able to view sensitivity labels when responses are generated using AI-powered answers based on SharePoint documents.

James Hardie today released its Investor Day 2024 Presentation – Day Two Materials. This event is being held in New York, NY on Monday, 24 June 2024. Copies of this document are available on James Hardie’s Investor Relations website at ir.jameshardie.com.au .
Speaking to the company’s long-term aspirations, James Hardie CEO Aaron Erter said, “Over the last two decades, James Hardie products have improved the aesthetics and durability of 11+ million homes in North America. The underlying fundamentals of our end markets have never been more supportive of long-term growth. Enabled by our strategy of being Homeowner Focused, Customer and Contractor Driven™, we can aspire to more than double our presence in the market in the coming decade to ~25 million homes with James Hardie.”
Mr. Erter went on to discuss certain financial implications of this goal:
“Our ability to expand the reach of our products through capitalizing on underlying market growth and the material conversion opportunity, coupled with gaining share through our superior value proposition across the value chain allows us to aspire to double-digit revenue growth over the long-term”.
James Hardie CFO Rachel Wilson said, “The aspirations laid out today illustrate that we are a growth company, but we are also grounded as an organization around delivering profitable growth, sustaining our strong returns on capital and generating attractive returns to shareholders.”
Today, James Hardie also announced that its Board has approved a US$50 million increase to its existing share buyback program. The company can now purchase up to US$300 million of common stock as part of this program. As of 24 June 2024, US$225 million has been utilized, leaving a remaining authorization of US$75 million.

Germany is the largest supplier of technology for the energy transition; the Netherlands imported 4.8 billion euros worth of goods from Germany in 2023. In second place is China (3.8 billion euros), followed by Belgium (1.4 billion euros). Imports from Germany, Belgium and South Korea consist mainly of electric and hybrid vehicles, while solar panels are mainly imported from China. If we include the transit trade in foreign-owned goods, China is the largest supplier of technology for the energy transition (11.8 billion euros, compared to Germany at 6.3 billion euros). This is because the Netherlands imports a lot of solar panels and PEVs from China that are destined for other European countries. Taking all transit trade into account, the Netherlands imported technology for the energy transition with a total value of over 28 billion euros in 2023, 11 percent more than in 2022.

In terms of the energy transition, Norway (1.0 billion euros) and Iceland (0.9 billion euros) are the largest suppliers of raw materials to the Netherlands. Imports from Iceland were almost exclusively aluminium, while imports from Norway consisted of 57 percent aluminium and 27 percent nickel. After Norway and Iceland, Chile (lithium, copper), Australia (nickel) and South Africa (particularly aluminium) are the next-largest suppliers of raw materials to the Netherlands. In 2023, Russia ranked as the eighth supplier of raw materials for the energy transition (in 2022, Russia ranked second after Norway). China is not in the top 10 because it mainly exports finished products that already incorporate critical raw materials, such as solar panels, electric vehicles, magnets and lithium-ion batteries.
