Bangarraju Review

What's Behind

King Nagarjuna's Bangarraju generated immense interest ever since its launch as it happened to be the sequel for his hit film Soggade Chinni Nayana. The film overcame all the initial hurdles and also the rumors that the project was shelved and finally hit the screens on Sankranti, on January 14,2022 keeping in view Nagarjuna's sentiment. The film increased hype with the presence of Naga Chaitanya in a powerful role. Let us see whether Bangarraju lived up to the expectations.

Story Review

Cardiologist Ramu (Nagarjuna) leaves his son Chinna Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) with his mother Satyabhama (Ramya Krishna), after the death of his wife Seetha (Lavanya Tripathi) and flies to the US. Satya plans to get Chinna Bangarraju married to Naga Lakshmi (Kriti Shetty), the daughter of Ramesh (Rao Ramesh).  However even before she could realize her dream, she passes away and meets her husband Pedda Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) in heaven. As they get worried about their grandson's wedding as he and Naga Lakshmi are poles apart, God of Death Yama (Naga Babu) and Indra has other plans. To find out where this leads to, enjoy Bangarraju on the silver screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Kalyan Krishna continued from where he left in Soggade Chinni Nayana. He starts off smoothly slipping into the narration with the beautiful proceedings in Heaven where Nagarjuna as elder Bangarraju enjoys with apsaras. The story shifts to the village Sivapuram and from there the narration turns routine with romance, youthful and revenge elements creeping in. Comparisons started creeping in between Bangarraju and Soggade Chinni Nayana and the main drawback is the sequel lacked strong emotions. Everything looked artificial and forced and one gets a feeling that all are passing through the motions. The real twists and turns go missing except for few scenes in the climax where Nagarjuna attracts as Ramu, elder, and younger Bangarraju. Kalyan Krishna's story turned out to be weak and routine except for one twist and screenplay and direction turned predictable thus robbing of the novely.

Nagarjuna performed well in his role. He continued from where he left in Soggade Chinni Nayana. He attracted by his traditional looks and attire. His mannerisms are good. He looked energetic and charming. However, at times his age started showing up. Ramya Krishna complimented Nagarjuna quite well. Their chemistry is a treat to watch. Both of them elevated the scenes. Naga Chaitanya impressed with his performance. He tried a completely different role in this film and emulated his dad Nagarjuna as Bangarraju. Kriti Shetty looked cute with her expressions and performed well in traditional attire.

Naga Babu is fine as God Yama and others performed accordingly. Vennela Kishore, Brahmaji tried to attract with their comedy but failed to entertain. Fiara Abdullah, Seerat Kapoor, Meenakshi Dixit, Daksha Nagarkar, Vedika Darshana Bhanik's glamor treat turned the film into colorful and gave a full feast to movie lovers.

Anup Rubens came with good songs and all the songs are well shot. Most of them elevated in a romantic manner. However, the BGM is good and in sync with the story. Yuvraj's cinematography beautified the film. He showed the village atmosphere and also elevated the glamor of all the young heroines much to the delight of the viewers. The editing of Vijay Vardhan could have been better as there are many drags and repetitive scenes that dragged the pace of the film. Production values are fine.

Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya's screen presence

Kriti Shetty's cute looks

Disadvantages

Lack of twists and turns

Rating Analysis

Nagarjuna's Bangarraju directed by Kalyan Krishna created immense hype as it happened to be the sequel for Soggade Chinni Nayana. However, with Kalyan Krishna casting Naga Chaitanya in an important role, it diluted the screen presence of Nagarjuna though he appeared in the climax. Many expected out and out entertainment from Nagarjuna just like as in Soggade Chinni Nayana. But with that entertainment from Nagarjuna diluted and routine elements creeping in with a lack of real twists and turns, Bangarraju turned out to be an average fare. But with the beautiful glamor of the young actresses and Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya's presence and rural backdrop, it will attract viewers. Considering all these elements, CJ goes with a 2.75 rating for Bangarraju.
