Guide to Submission and Presentation of the Thesis
As of 1 October 2021, the University requires all final version (completed) PGR theses to be submitted in electronic (e-thesis) format. Physical hardback copies are no longer required for SwanseaUniversity Library or the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, however temporary binding for examination purposes may still be needed (see below).

As from 1 October 2021 it is no longer a SwanseaUniversity requirement to submit a hard bound copy of your thesis. Instead, your thesis will be uploaded to the Cronfa Repository. You must send a completed E-thesis Agreement in with your final copy of your thesis.

The E-Thesis Deposit Agreement offers an opportunity for the completing student to supply a temporary embargo expiry date to the full-text e-thesis. Access can be restricted for one year, two years etc. up to a maximum of five years. For example: Publication pending - journal article (s) or monograph.

You submit a thesis of up to 100,000words for PhD assessment and 60,000 words for MPhil assessment, demonstrating original research with a significant contribution to the field of Education. This is followed by an oral examination of the thesis (a viva voce examination, or viva).

The Faculty/School must submit a formal assessment report on the student’s progress to the Progression and Awards Board, giving an indication when the student will be ready to submit a thesis (see the Guide to Progress Monitoring of Research Students for more details).
