Hello everyone! Erick Boenisch, executive producer at Visual Concepts, back once again. It feels like just yesterday that I was writing the MyTEAM Developer Diary for NBA 2K20! Writing this piece every year is something I very much look forward to; the team here at Visual Concepts makes it easy with their endless ambition and relentless work ethic.

This has been an interesting year for, well, all of us. Our world has changed in many ways. The way we go about our lives is very different than it was at this time last year, but one item that has remained constant is the drive and ambition behind the team working on MyTEAM. We designed much of this game from our homes. Thanks to Zoom, I now know the name and face of every kid that has a parent working on MyTEAM. You better believe they made sure to make cameos during meetings. From our homes to yours, let’s learn about what we have in store for you in NBA 2K21!

MyTEAM Across Generations

Before we dive in on the new features you’ll be playing this year, I want to first cover a very important piece when it comes to MyTEAM and the transition between current and next generation for PlayStation and Xbox.

For those of you who start your NBA 2K21 MyTEAM experience with the launch of PS4/Xbox One on September 4, I am excited to confirm that your entire collection AND progress will carry over once you start playing the next generation version of the game. This means you will have access to all of your pulled and earned cards (and any evolution progress associated with them), your progress in Domination, Triple Threat, etc., and your entire balance of VC, MyTEAM Points, and Tokens. It’s all there! The only caveat is that this only works across matching generations on the same account. Specifically, PS4 to PS5 works. Xbox One to Xbox Series X works. PS5 to PS4 and Xbox Series X to Xbox One also work. PS4 to Xbox Series X and Xbox One to PS5 does not work. Having the game on PS4 or Xbox One on one account and using a different account for PS5 or Xbox Series X also does not work. Pretty straightforward.

In NBA 2K21, your entire MyTEAM collection and progress will seamlessly carry over from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series X, so you can enjoy MyTEAM, uninterrupted, all year long!

The carryover is quite simple and there is nothing you need to do. In fact, you can even go back and forth playing the current gen version and the next gen version at-will. You’ll learn more about our next generation game soon enough.

Last bit here, and this is a good reminder. For anyone who purchases the Mamba Forever Edition of the game on PS4/Xbox One, you will receive a copy of the Standard Edition of NBA 2K21 on the matching next generation console. You can get all the details in our FAQ here. For all of my MyTEAMers out there, this is great value and lets you start playing MyTEAM ‘early’ this year without the worry of losing any progress/time spent. We got you!

Enough. Let’s finally talk features.

Seasons & Seasonal Content

One of my favorite things about MyTEAM is how the mode is always evolving, whether it be through new cards that change the meta, or new content that provides exciting rewards. That being said, I have become very interested in structuring that evolution into a mechanism that you, our community, can really sink your teeth into. In NBA 2K21, we are going to introduce the Seasons concept into MyTEAM. Let’s clarify one thing at the top; Seasons are free for everyone, there is no paid component to it.

I have two key tenets to the MyTEAM Season design for 2K21: 1) New prizing updates across most modes every Season, and 2) Add something NEW to the mode every Season. I’m going to be intentionally vague here so as not to spoil any plans, so please bear with me. Some Seasons will add new content for you to play (think something like Spotlight Sims), while other Seasons may add new features to the game, or add a reward twist that you will be chasing all Season. The main point is, I really want each passing Season to feel fresh. I want the start of a new Season to create a buzz in the MyTEAM community that we can all rally behind and be excited about.

With the high level ideas out of the way, let’s dive a little deeper into what a Season truly is. While the duration of each Season is not a fixed period of time, they will generally be about 6 weeks in length. As a team, this was one of our longest discussions of the year and in the end, we felt this is the perfect amount of time to allow you to make progress towards Seasonal awards in your favorite modes without it becoming a little too long.

During the Season, you will be working to complete Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal-based Agendas. As objectives are completed, you will earn XP that will be used to raise your Season Level. Every time you level up, you will earn a reward. Reaching the final level within a Season earns you the grand prize for the Season. It’s going to take a lot of playing to get there, but we are always going to make the reward completely worth it. In fact, let’s talk about the Season 1 prize for reaching the highest level: Pink Diamond Steph Curry! A PD Steph Curry is going to be a beast to go against in the early game. All you’ve got to do is play to earn it. Interested yet?

Brand new for NBA 2K21, Seasons will bring new content and new ways to play MyTEAM all year long! Earn the Season 1 grand prize, Pink Diamond Steph Curry, by simply completing Seasonal Agendas!

Going back to tenet #1 above, let’s talk in more detail about the Seasonal prizing updates and what they will look like around MyTEAM:

New ‘Vault’ prizes updated every Season in Triple Threat. We’ll actually update them during the Season as well, just to keep the mode as fresh as possible.
New ‘Cumulative Win’ prizes added every Season in Triple Threat. If you played Triple Threat in 2K20, your interest is probably piqued right now. Let’s talk about how single player Triple Threat is going to work in 2K21, and why what we are doing this year is better. When NBA 2K21 launches, there are going to be 300 wins available for you on the win ‘ladder.’ When you get to that 300 th win in Season 1, you will no longer accrue additional wins to your tally, but you CAN continue chasing those ever-changing vault prizes! But hey, at 300 wins, you will have the guaranteed Season 1 prize in Triple Threat. It’s a Diamond card, and it’s a darn good one.

In subsequent Seasons, we will add new ‘Wins’ available for you to play. As an example, this means you might be able to go to something like 450 Wins in Season 2. In this example, those new 150 ‘Wins’ will have prizing with the 450 th win being the Season 2 Triple Threat prize. Now, why is this better than NBA 2K20? Easy; NBA2K20 launched with 1,000 Wins available to you, and a Galaxy Opal waiting at the end. The problem was, that card became outclassed pretty quickly as MyTEAM evolved. It effectively made Triple Threat less valuable as the year went on. Personally, I love Triple Threat and want it to remain a staple for everyone all year long. As we add new ‘Wins’ available to you with each passing season, this enables us the opportunity to provide rewards that fit the current Season within MyTEAM. To summarize this, it basically means we can give you better prizes that will match the time and effort you have invested to get there. Everyone wins!

New ‘Boards’ updates added every Season in Triple Threat Online. The ball drop is back, and I’ll tell you this, the ball drops faster this year! We like to add in cool prizes into Triple Threat Online from time-to-time. In NBA 2K20, it was not always obvious what those prizes were and it required a lot of word-of-mouth around the community. In NBA 2K21, we have added a screen when you first enter Triple Threat Online that will highlight the best prizes available in each tier of the boards. Easy solution to remind you what you are playing for!
New Season prize offered every Season in MyTEAM Limited. No, that’s not a typo; it’s called MyTEAM Limited. More on this one below!
New Prizing Updates added every Season in MyTEAM Unlimited 2.0. Yes, Unlimited has undergone a much-needed facelift. More on this one below, as well!
New ‘Combinations’ added every season in The Exchange. More new features! Stay tuned, you probably guessed it, more details below!
New this year is Dynamic Domination Seasonal Updates. For the first time, we are going to be adding entirely NEW tiers to Domination after we ship the game this year. These won’t be an every Season thing, but we will definitely be adding a few new tiers over the course of NBA 2K21’s lifetime. When we add new tiers, I promise we will make playing them worth your while. In an ever-increasing dynamic MyTEAM mode, Domination is about to have some late-year relevance for the first time!
New cards added every Season to the Reward Market. We have been adding cards to the Reward Market for two years now. Seasons provides us (and you) with the opportunity to standardize when new content is released in this feature!

MyTEAM Limited

MyTEAM Limited is a brand new MyTEAM game mode for NBA 2K21. This new mode is only available for play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday each week. The twist here is that the rules for the mode will be changing every single weekend when a new event is activated!

Let’s start with the basics. MyTEAM Limited is an online 5v5 multiplayer mode where you will compete against fellow MyTEAM players who, like you, are chasing Championship Rings (more on that in a minute). The twist that I alluded to above is where the ‘Limited’ in MyTEAM Limited comes into play. We will be introducing new lineup restrictions every single weekend to change up the meta of the game. For example, one weekend we may limit you to players 23 years old and younger. Another weekend, we may say that all players in your lineup need to be Ruby or lower. The controls we have built in will allow us to create some very fun combinations that will both allow and encourage you to use a wider breadth of the cards in your collection. Looking for high-end budget cards is going to be an important part of card collecting in NBA 2K21!

Now, about those Championship Rings. Every weekend, there is a new Championship Ring up for grabs. When you win a MyTEAM Limited game, you will be rewarded with a prize. You’ll be able to view that prize, but you have an important decision to make with it. Do you want to keep the prize we gave you, or do you want to trade it in for your choice of one of two other mystery prizes? The mystery prizes may be better or worse than what we offered you (they may also contain the week’s Championship Ring). We are going to throw some creative prizes your way to make these decisions tough for you!

New to NBA 2K21, MyTEAM Limited is a limited-time game mode available every Friday-Sunday that features new rules every weekend! Find and collect the Championship Ring from each weekend during the Season to earn a powerful card that will make you the envy of all your opponents!

After the final Limited event of the Season, you will trade in your Championship Rings for a tiered prize based on how many rings you collected. If you were lucky enough to collect every Championship Ring in a given season, you will earn the MyTEAM Limited grand prize for that season. That grand prize will be a VERY high end card that will instantly make you the envy of all of your future opponents. And let’s be real, it will wreck the CPU in Triple Threat games! For those of you who manage to get one or some of the Championship Rings available in a season, we have tiered prizes for you as well, based on how many you earned!

One more item here. To help you better identify what players qualify for the current MyTEAM Limited weekend event, some of them will appear with a championship ring sticker on their cards while the event is live. These stickers will appear on the cards in your collection as well as on the cards in the Auction House. To make it easier yet, when creating your lineup in the MyTEAM Limited game mode, we have added a filter in the lineup creator that will only display the players in your collection that are eligible for the event, making it very easy for you to create your best lineup! And for my savvy readers out there, there will absolutely be a high demand every weekend for the best players eligible for the current event. Play the market. Buy low, sell high!

All in all, I am tremendously enjoying my time with MyTEAM Limited. It is a breath of fresh air for online multiplayer. In a sense, everyone is on equal footing with the rules, and it really comes down to your ability to craft the right team to fit your skills on the sticks. I’m confident everyone is going to have a good time this year with Limited!

MyTEAM Unlimited 2.0

Introduced in NBA 2K19, MyTEAM Unlimited instantly became the go-to mode for many in MyTEAM. In NBA 2K21, Unlimited is undergoing its next evolution. This year, Unlimited will consist of 9 Leagues that you need to play through before you can reach the top!

Every League in MyTEAM Unlimited 2.0 will consist of up to 12 games. In order to advance to the next League, you will need to win a certain number of games in your current league. For example, in the first league, you only need to win 3 of your 12 games to advance. Once you get that third win, you automatically level up to the next league. You do not need to play the remaining games for that league. As you move up the league structure, more and more wins will be required to level up. To keep things interesting and to keep you on your toes, if you do not meet the win requirement to advance to the next level, you will still need to win a certain number of games (out of 12) to remain on your current level!

If you have the skill to reach the highest tier, the Galaxy Opal tier, an exclusive prize awaits if you can go 12-0 in that final League. It won’t be easy, but we will make the effort worth the reward. And just think, as you level up through the leagues, you will be completing Seasonal Agendas to earn valuable XP to help build your overall Season level, which leads to a prize in its own right! Every Season, we will be resetting everyone’s record in MyTEAM Unlimited (not unlike what we did on the first of each month in NBA 2K20) and will introduce a new grand prize that you will be chasing for that season.

The internal feedback on MyTEAM Unlimited 2.0 has been very positive. The earlier leagues allow you to establish your lineup and practice your strategy before you start to hit the higher leagues, which have higher win requirements and more skilled opponents. Between MyTEAM Limited and MyTEAM Unlimited, we are giving you more ways than ever to compete in NBA 2K21!

The Exchange

Full disclosure, this feature had about 13 different names during development. I had less trouble naming my children than watching the name come together for this. Whenever I see this dilemma occur during development, I know we have something special. It almost always means the feature is a labor of love for the team working on it and even the most simple item, naming it, is a multi-meeting affair to make sure every detail hits just the right note.

New to NBA 2K21, The Exchange allows you to turn in/exchange your cards for some great prizes! Every Season in MyTEAM this year will feature new Exchanges for you to collect and complete to earn exclusive cards only available here. Yes, some of the cards you get from here will be truly elite. The quality of the reward is going to dictate how much effort is required to complete the Exchange. For example, an Exchange may require you to trade in a Western Conference PG rated 90 or higher and an Eastern Conference PG rated 90 or higher to earn a higher rated player. The system is incredibly flexible and will allow us to create Exchanges geared toward our newest users as well as some of our most dedicated and passionate users.

Some cards will even look ho-hum on the surface, but we secretly have future plans for that card where they will be invaluable (cough MyTEAM Limited cough, I never told you that). We will even drop in more simplistic Exchanges in the middle of Seasons that may allow you to convert a number of silver/gold contracts in order to obtain a Diamond contract. Or a Diamond pair of shoes (side note: there are SO many unique Diamond shoes in the game this year)!

The Exchange is a new feature within NBA 2K21 that allows you the opportunity to exchange some cards you may no longer be using for cards that will become staples in your starting lineup. This sample Exchange affords you the ability to exchange a collection of cards for a Pink Diamond Bob Cousy!

My favorite aspect of this feature is that it gives you yet another avenue to utilize what were non-used cards in your collection in NBA 2K20. Between MyTEAM Limited and The Exchange, you really need to be very aware of what you are doing when you decide you no longer need a card in your collection because it doesn’t fit in your ‘best’ lineup. MyTEAM Limited has no ‘best’ lineup, and you literally never know WHAT we will throw at you in The Exchange!

Badge Customization

After taking a one-year hiatus in NBA 2K20, the ability to customize your players with unique badges has returned for NBA 2K21! I have to be honest, I really missed this feature last year. There is something to be said for pulling the latest and greatest card and then having the ability to truly make it your own by customizing it to better fit your play style.

For those of you newer to the MyTEAM experience who may not understand this one, there will be Badge Cards available in MyTEAM that allow you to both Apply badges and Upgrade badges on players. For example, if you have a card that doesn’t have Clamps on it (and the player is eligible), you can take a Clamps badge card and apply it to your player. This is an awesome way to customize your team more than ever!

There have been some changes and improvements since you last saw this feature. Badge cards will be available in Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Hall of Fame (oh yes!). To upgrade a player, you need to first apply the Bronze version of the badge. To upgrade to Gold, you will need to then apply the Silver version of the badge before adding the Gold version of the badge. Hall of Fame versions of badges are going to be very rare, and will be made available primarily through prizing and playing the game (Season level rewards is one area where you can definitely find these). For anyone familiar with the game, you know how powerful the right Hall of Fame badge can be to the game experience! Another change, and this is a really important one, is we are going to limit what badges can go on players based on their archetype/play style. It doesn’t make much sense to apply a Brick Wall badge to Steph Curry, right?

Let’s briefly talk about how this affects the next gen version of the game. As I’m sure you have heard and read, we are building a truly unique experience from the ground up on next gen and the game is looking phenomenal! Gameplay is very different on the next gen version of the game compared to the current gen version. As such, there will be a number of new badges and badge changes in the next gen version of the game. We have established a mapping that converts your current gen badges to next gen equivalents so that when you upgrade to the next gen version of our game, your customized badges will continue to live on, in slightly different/better ways!

Evolution cards will not be eligible for badge customization, however, as we have something new for Evo cards that we think you are going to love.

Customizable Evolutions

Evolution Cards was clearly one of our star additions to the NBA 2K20 MyTEAM experience. The ability to obtain cards and power them up to higher gem tiers felt very rewarding as it gave people a chance to build some sweat equity with their collections. Evolution Cards are back in NBA 2K21, and better than ever!

New to NBA 2K21, you will now have more control over how some of your Evolution Cards evolve as they tier up. That is because we are introducing the concept of branching in the evolution process! When you have an evo card that reaches a choice tier, you will make a selection between two badges that you want to focus on adding to the given card. Let’s use a real example here to dive into this further. Spoiler: the venerable Shaquille O’Neal is one of our Starter Pack options this year ( this means you can choose to start with a free Shaq card in 2K21!). One of his evolution tiers is going to offer you the choice between Rebound Chaser (improved rebounding ability) and Rim Protector (better shot blocking ability). It’s a tough choice. Do you want your Shaq to be a better rebounder, or more menacing around the rim? Based on the badge you choose to chase, the requirement to upgrade it will update accordingly.

Evolution Cards are back and better than ever! New to NBA 2K21, you will now have more control over how some of your Evolution Cards evolve as they tier up. Will you improve Shaq’s rebounding ability or his shot blocking ability? The choice is yours!

This means that not all fully evolved Evolution Cards will be identical in NBA 2K21, and I think that is a fantastic thing. MyTEAM is a mode about fantasy. A mode about user choice and customization. The addition of Customizable Evolutions to the game this year takes us that one step further to differentiating player lineups and gives you yet another tool to give your team the edge out there on the courts. I can’t wait to see the choices you will all make this year. We’ve got some crafty ideas planned!

Over the past couple years, we have really focused on rewarding you more and more, with better and better prizes. I’m thinking the ball drop mechanic, sweeping changes to both how Locker Codes work and how frequently they come, daily login rewards, prize wheel spins for logging in every day in a week, the Triple Threat prize ladder, the Triple Threat Vault, and so on. Not EVERY prize can be something that makes your jaw drop to the floor, I think we all know that. But when you have that moment where you earn something that is a true game changer for your team, there is no greater feeling.

In NBA 2K21, we are adding a new prizing mechanism that we are calling Ascension. The premise is quite simple. There are three vertical tiers of prizes available. Each tier contains a number of cards that you can flip over to reveal a prize. Within each tier, there is one card that, when flipped over, ‘levels’ you up to the next tier. Once you reach the third tier, there is a grand prize card hidden somewhere in the mix. If you can find and flip over that card, you will obtain a VERY high level card for free right there on the spot! Ascension is part of our Seasons program in NBA 2K21. This means that the grand prize card will update every season to be a new ‘must have’ player!

Ok, but what’s the catch? There is always a catch! The game here is you have a limited number of picks available to use. You need to find those ascension cards (these are the ones that level you up to the next vertical tier) and find the grand prize card before you run out of picks. To aid you on your mission, a number of the cards you flip over will reward you with additional picks to ensure you don’t run out. While it is going to be fairly difficult to earn the Season grand prize in Ascension, my favorite aspect about this game is that you will almost always walk away with SOMETHING cool. It might be MyTEAM Points, some Tokens, or even a free pack of cards. Whatever you collect as you flip over the cards is yours to keep no matter what happens!

Words can only tell the story so much here. Let’s take a look at an actual screenshot of what Ascension looks like so you can better understand what is happening here:

Welcome to Ascension! This new prizing mechanism in NBA 2K21 allows you to flip over cards and collect whatever prize is shown on it. Simple as that! Certain cards allow you to ‘ascend’ to higher tiers of cards. Finding the Grand Prize card on the third tier of cards will reward you with the Ascension player of the season. This card will be one of the best cards available in MyTEAM. Good luck!

In the picture, you can see the Seasonal grand prize up in the top-left corner and my number of picks remaining in the lower-left corner. On my next flip, I actually got a 2x MTP Multiplier. The flip after that I got 500 MTP. With the 2x multiplier active, that means I’m taking home 1,000 free MTP on top of whatever else I can earn. Easy, fun, and just another way for us to reward you for your accomplishments in NBA 2K21! Go get that grand prize, my friends! Oh, you want to know what the Season 1 grand prize is going to be? How does a Pink Diamond card sound? If you are doing the math between the Season Level prize, the Unlimited prize, the Limited prize, the Triple Threat Offline prize, and the Ascension prize, you can quickly see the quality of the cards that are going to be available by simply playing the mode and showing your skill on the sticks. IDOLS Series Collection

I want to take a quick detour, if you’ll allow me, to place a spotlight on what is going to be THE premium collection that you will be coveting during NBA 2K21’s MyTEAM run. Last year, the PRIME series carried the baton passed on to it from the 20 th Anniversary Collection in 2K19. This year, the baton is being passed to what we are calling the IDOLS Series.

The IDOLS Series, as the name would imply, is going to feature some of the NBA’s most memorable players, with a healthy mix of present vs. past. These are the players you are going to want filling every position in your lineup, as they will generally be the best cards available in the mode at the time of their release.

The IDOLS Series will make its debut in September, and will feature the first pullable Pink Diamond in NBA 2K21! Our first IDOL was missing in action for NBA 2K20, but we are excited for his return this year, nay, next month! The entirety of the collection will be spread across 15 releases. We are breaking these 15 releases down into Series I (5 cards), Series II (5 cards), and Series III (5 cards). When you collect all 5 IDOLS cards in a given series, you will unlock the collection complete reward for that series. Completing Series I of the IDOLS Series will reward you with a lineup-changing Galaxy Opal card! Yes, you are going to want this!

Other Highlights

There are so many more additions the team has made this year. I’ve picked out a select few that I really felt needed to be brought to the surface. Let’s dive into them.

MyTEAM Promo Packs

Signature Challenges

Signature challenges are a new challenge type we are adding to the NBA 2K21 experience. They won’t happen very often, but when they do, we are going to make it worth your while to play them.

Every NBA player has a memorable experience in their career. It may be the first time they stepped on an NBA court, entering a foreign world that they set out to take over. It may be the clinching game of the NBA Finals that landed them their first NBA title. Or it may be anything that happened in between those two landmark moments.

Signature Challenges seek to tell the story of the most memorable games for your favorite NBA players, both past and present. The exciting part here is that these won’t be chosen by us, but rather will be chosen directly by the players themselves! You will literally have the opportunity to play these memorable games, through the eyes of some of the best NBA players, past and present.

We will be hosting one Signature Challenge at launch, and who better to spotlight than our cover athlete, Damian Lillard! You may be thinking, easy one. On January 20 th of this year, Dame exploded for a franchise record 61 points, including a career-best 11 3-pointers. With this game, Lillard became the first player in NBA history with 60+ points and 10+ 3-pointers in a game. An absolutely incredible performance. But no, this is not it.

On April 24 th of last year, the Blazers had a 3-1 series lead on the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs. In the closing seconds of game 5, Lillard drilled a 37-foot pull-up over Paul George as time expired to sink the Thunder and advance the Blazers to the next round. If you have no clue what I’m talking about here, consider this required homework: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMm5NtXLVDY . Why did Damian take that shot, that far out? In his own words to us, he just said, “I wanted the last word.” No one can argue he definitely had the last word that night! And through his own words, this will be your first Signature Challenge of NBA 2K21. This will be a fun one. And we’ll have more of these from different players as the year rolls on. Enjoy!

Objective Tracker

You’ll sometimes hear a company say they have added a feature as a ‘quality-of-life’ item. In NBA 2K21, that’s exactly what the Objective Tracker is. MyTEAM players are going to have a lot going on this year. You are going to get Season Agendas galore that you are simultaneously chasing down (score points with this player, win this many games in this mode, make 9 threes with a Sapphire, etc.). With this new feature, you will have the ability to tag up to 9 Season Agendas or Dynamic Goals of your choice. You will then be able to see and review those tagged Agendas/Goals when entering into offline gameplay in MyTEAM, as a reminder of what you set out to accomplish in the current game.

No longer will you have to try and remember how many points you were supposed to score with Klay Thompson. Now, set it and review it as you start your next game. This is a feature I’m really enjoying in NBA 2K21. I think there is even more we can do here to make this more useful for you in the future. Stay tuned on this one!

Holographic Ball

During NBA 2K20, many of you were chasing the elusive Fire Ball. It certainly wasn’t easy to obtain, and that was completely by design. It was meant to be an exclusive club of players that earned that one. In NBA 2K21, we’re introducing a Holographic Basketball into the game. You might be thinking, what is a holographic basketball? By all means, I would encourage you to google those two words. The ball looks incredible in-game and absolutely pops on the screen. I’m not going to spoil it here with a screenshot, sorry! One thing is for sure, you will be the envy of your opponents when you roll into the gym rocking the Holographic Basketball. Keep an eye out for this one as the years moves along!

NBA 2K21 MyTEAM Starts NOW

Inside NBA 2K20, we have launched a special MyTEAM Moments Challenge. Live until Friday, August 28, players who successfully complete this challenge will immediately earn 21 Tokens in NBA 2K20. More importantly, you will ALSO earn a free MyTEAM pack that will be waiting for you to open in NBA 2K21 on September 4! Closing Thoughts

In many ways, I view NBA 2K19 as the rebirth of MyTEAM as we currently know it. It had a lot of new features that laid the groundwork for where we are today. NBA 2K20 did a fantastic job last year of carrying the torch and adding staple features of its own. To me, NBA 2K21’s MyTEAM proves that the development team behind it have truly hit their stride; the feature set this year speaks for itself. New modes. New ideas. And new ways to delight players all year long.

Personally, I’m a part of a number of different gaming communities. I think many of us are. The value presented to this development team by you, our MyTEAM community, is second to none. We keep each other honest, and I think that is incredibly important for the long-term growth of this mode. And we’re never going to stop growing this mode. Our implementation of Seasons this year is going to show you exactly what I mean when I say that.

Finishing Badges in NBA 2K21 affect your abilities when it comes to layups, dunks, etc. They can make it so that performing these moves becomes easier, or they can help you recover if you flub something, etc. You get the idea; let’s get into the details.

Acrobat – Boosts the ability to hit high degree of difficulty layups. Spin, half-spin, hop step, euro-step, cradle, reverse and change shot layup attempts receive a significant boost.
Backdown Punisher – Increases the chances of a player successfully backing down their opponent. Allows players to have more success than normal when backing down a defender in the paint.
Consistent Finisher – Reduces the penalty for poorly released layups. Penalties for mis-timed layups are reduced, allowing players to make layups more consistently.
Contact Finisher – Improves the ability to convert contact layups and dunks in traffic. Slashers who play below the rim finish contact layups more successfully while dunkers are able to pull off more contact dunks.
Cross-Key Scorer – Boosts the shot percentage for layups when moving across the paint. Boosts the ability to make running hooks, layups, or close range pull-ups while driving across the paint.
Deep Hooks – Boosts the shot percentage when shooting hooks from a deep distance. Post hooks taken far from the basket receive less of a distance penalty than normal.
Dropstepper – Improves a player’s ability to effectively use dropsteps in the post. Allows for more success when attempting post dropsteps and hop steps, in addition to protecting the ball better while performing these moves in the post.
Fancy Footwork – Improves a player’s ability to beat defenders with an advanced layup or dunk gather. Players get past defenders more efficiently when performing euro, cradle, hop step, spin and half-spin gathers.
Fastbreak Finisher – Boosts a player’s Takeover meter when completing a dunk on a fastbreak. Gives an additional boost to a player’s Takeover meter when successfully dunking on a fastbreak.
Giant Slayer – Heightens the effectiveness of layups over taller defenders. Boosts the shot percentage for a layup attempt when mismatched against a taller defender and reduces the possibility of getting blocked.
Lob City Finisher – Improves the chances of completing a successful alley-oop dunk/layup. Improves a player’s ability to successfully finish an alley-oop layup or dunk. The shot must be taken before the receiver lands.
Pick & Roller – Increases shot percentage as the roller in a pick & roll. When rolling off the pick and roll, a shot boost is applied if the layup or dunk attempt comes within a few seconds after catching the pass.
Pro Touch – Gives an additional boost for having good layup timing. Gives an extra shot boost for having slightly early, slightly late, or excellent shot timing on layups.
Putback Boss – Increases shot percentage when attempting a putback after an offensive rebound. Boosts the shot attributes of a player that attempts a putback layup or dunk right after getting an offensive rebound.
Relentless Finisher – Reduces the fatigue effects from continually finishing at the rim with contact. Improves a player’s ability to take a lot of contact by reducing the energy lost when attacking the rim for contact shots.
Showtime – Boosts team’s Takeover meters after completing a highlight play. Gives an additional boost to a player’s Takeover meter and his/her teammates, when successfully completing an And-1 or flashy dunk.
Slithery Finisher – Improves a player’s ability to avoid contact when attacking the rim. Increases a player’s ability to slide through traffic and avoid contact during gathers and finishes at the rim.
Tear Dropper – Increases the chance of hitting floaters and runners. Improves a player’s ability to knock down floaters and runners.

NBA 2K21 Shooting Badges

Shooting Badges in NBA 2K21 are all about making shots from a mid to long distance, for the most part. You can get badges that help you make three-pointers, corner shots, ignore defense players, and so on. Here’s the list.

Catch & Shoot – Boosts the chance of hitting a jump shot immediately after a catch. For a short time after receiving a pass, the receiver’s outside shooting attributes get a significant boost.
Clutch Shooter – Increases the ability to knock down shots in clutch moments. Shot attempts that occur during the final moments of the 4th quarter, or in any overtime period, receive a large boost.
Corner Specialist – Gives a boost to shots taken near the corner. Deep mid-range or 3PT shots taken along the baseline of the court receive a boost, whether it is off the dribble or off a catch.
Deadeye – Reduces the impact of a defender who is closing out. Jump shots taken with a defender closing out receive less of a penalty from a shot contest. This includes both mid-range and 3PT shots.
Deep Fades – Improves the chance of making a post fadeaway from deep range. Post fadeaways taken far from the basket receive less of a distance penalty than normal.
Difficult Shots – Improves the ability to shoot difficult shots off the dribble. High difficulty jumpers such as hop steps, spins, stepbacks, and pull-ups receive a shot percentage boost.
Flexible Release – Reduces the penalty suffered from mis-timed jump shot releases. Shot timing penalties for jump shots are reduced, making it easier to knock down attempts even when releasing early or late.
Green Machine – Increases the bonus given for consecutive excellent releases. Gives an additional shot boost when consecutively achieving excellent releases on jump shots.
Hot Start – Improves player’s shooting ability after making first shot until a miss occurs. For every made shot from the beginning of the game, player receives a shot attribute bonus that lasts until the first missed shot attempt.
Hot Zone Hunter – Boosts the shot percentage for attempts taken in a player’s favorite spots. Shots that are taken in a player’s hot zone(s) are given a boost.
Ice In Veins – Improves a player’s free throw percentage during critical moments. Free throws taken in the second half of close games or overtime periods are given a boost. Also, the timing window for free throws becomes larger.
Pick & Popper – Elevates the shot percentage for an attempt taken off a pick and fade situation. Shot attempts that come after setting a screen are given a boost if the shot happens far enough from the rim and within a few seconds after the screen has been set.
Pump Fake Maestro – Decreases the penalty that comes from shooting after pump fakes. Shortens the timer that determines how long after a pump fake a player can shoot without incurring a shot percentage penalty.
Quick Draw – Speeds up the release of a jump shot. The higher the badge level, the faster a player will be able to release all jump shots.
Range Extender – Extends the range from which a player can effectively shoot. Adds extra distance to a player’s given shot range for both mid-range and 3PT shots.
Slippery Off-Ball – Strengthens the player’s ability to get open off the ball. When attempting to get open off screens, the player more effectively navigates through traffic.
Steady Shooter – Reduces the penalties for contested shots and bonuses for open shots. Shot attempts that are contested receive less of a penalty, however shot attempts that are open do not receive as much of a bonus.
Tireless Shooter – Improves a player’s ability to make shots when fatigued. Shot attributes on jump shots suffer a smaller penalty than normal when fatigued.
Volume Shooter – Boosts shot percentages as shot attempts accrue throughout the game. After a player has taken a small handful of shots, an additional boost to shot attributes is given for every subsequent shot, whether it’s a make or a miss.

Playmaking Badges List in NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 playmaking badges revolve around dribbling, making passes, messing with the opposing defense, and so on. Or, you know, the really fun part. Here are all the badges in this category.

Ankle Breaker – improves the likelihood of freezing or dropping a defender during dribble moves. When performing stepbacks and other certain moves, the defender stumbles or falls more frequently when biting the wrong way.
Bail Out – Increases the chances of successfully completing a pass from mid-air. Passing out of a jump shot or layup yields fewer errant passes than normal.
Break Starter – Improves a player’s ability to make effective outlet passes after grabbing a rebound. After grabbing a defensive board, deep outlet passes made up the court are more accurate. Passes must be made quickly following the defensive rebound.
Dimer – Boosts the shot percentage for open teammates on jump shots after catching a pass. When in the half-court, passes by Dimers to open shooters yield a shot percentage boost.
Downhill – Increases overall speed with the ball in transition. Gives a bonus to a player’s Speed With Ball attribute in fastbreak situations.
Dream Shake – Raises the chances that a defender bites when doing fakes in the post. Post move fakes have a higher chance of stunning a defender. Also, shot attempts following post moves and shot fakes have an increased shot percentage.
Flashy Passer – Gives an additional boost to player’s Takeover meter after completing an assist with a flashy pass. After completing a flashy pass for an assist, both the passer and the scorer receive an additional boost to their Takeover meters.
Floor General – Teammates receive an offensive attribute bonus when player is in the game. Gives offensive attribute boosts to teammates when on the floor. Also, at the Hall of Fame level, can see teammates` potential shot percentages while on offense.
Handles For Days – Reduces the amount of energy lost when performing dribble moves. A player takes less of an energy hit when performing consecutive dribble moves, allowing them to chain together combos quicker for longer periods of time.
Lob City Passer – Improves the chances of completing a successful alley-oop pass. When throwing an alley-oop pass, an attribute boost is given to both the passer and receiver to improve the chances of success.
Needle Threader – Increases the likelihood that tough passes can get by the defense. When passing through a tight window between defenders, a boost is given to the player’s passing ability.
Pass Fake Maestro – Increases the effectiveness of pass fakes. Pass fakes become quicker and tighter, making them more useful in baiting the defense.
Post Spin Technician – Improves the ability of a post spin or drive to work effectively. Attempting to do post spins or drives result in more effective moves, and less of a chance to be stripped.
Quick First Step – Provides more explosive first steps out of triple threat and size-ups. When driving out of triple threat or after a size-up, ball handlers have access to quicker and more effective launches.
Space Creator – Improves a player’s ability to create space from a defender. When performing any stepback move or shot, there’s a higher chance of successfully creating separation from the opponent.
Stop & Go – Improves a player’s ability to start and stop with the ball. Allows for the ball handler to start and stop quickly with unique stops and launches exclusive to this badge.
Tight Handles – Improves a player’s ability to break down their defender. Increases a player’s ball handling ability in size-up situations, making it easier to break down the on-ball defender.
Unpluckable – Reduces the chances of getting stripped by the defender. When performing dribble moves, defenders have a tougher time poking the ball free with their steal attempts.

All NBA 2K21 Defense & Rebounding Badges

Defense and rebounding badges affect your defensive abilities, including the rebounding stuff, obviously. These badges are the ones you wanna study if you’re aiming to be more effective at stopping your opponents. This is what you have to work with.

Box – Improves player’s ability to box out opponents. Strengthens a player’s ability to effectively box out opponents in anticipation of a rebound.
Brick Wall – Increases effectiveness of screens and drains energy from opponents on physical contact. This badge makes it tougher for the defense to get through or around screens. Players hit by contact from a Brick Wall lose more energy than normal.
Chase Down Artist – Raises the chances of getting a chase-down block. Boosts the speed and leaping ability of a player when he is chasing down an offensive player in anticipation of a block attempt.
Clamps – Boosts the ability to stay in front of the ball handler on the perimeter. Defenders have access to quicker cut off moves and are more successful when bumping or hip riding the ball handler.
Defensive Leader – Boosts the defensive abilities of teammates when in the game. Lifts the defensive abilities of teammates when on the court. Also, at the Hall of Fame level, can see potential shot percentages of opposing players.
Heart Crusher – Decreases opponents’ Takeover meters when achieving a highlight play on defense. After successfully blocking or stealing the ball from an opponent, an additional penalty is given to the opposing player’s Takeover meter.
Interceptor – Increases chances at getting steals in passing lanes. The frequency of successfully tipped or intercepted passes greatly increases.
Intimidator – Intimidates offensive players causing them to miss shots more often. Offensive players have less success shooting when contested by players with this badge. Also boosts the shot defense ratings when tightly guarding an opponent.
Lightning Reflexes – Receives an earlier cue on the Read and React system while playing defense. Gives the defender an advantage to read where the ball handler is going in the Read and React system.
Moving Truck – Strengthens a defender’s ability to move people around in the post. Players are more effective pushing opponents out of the post while playing defense.
Off-Ball Pest – Improves a player’s ability to bump and harass the offense off the ball. Makes players more difficult to get past when playing off-ball, as they can grab and hold their matchup and don’t get their ankles broken as often.
Pick Dodger – Improves a player’s ability to navigate through screens effectively on defense.
Pick Pocket – Improves a player’s ability to steal the ball from a ball handler. Increases the chances of a steal and reduces the chances of a foul when attempting to strip the ball from a ball handler. Also improves the chances of successful layup strips.
Pogo Stick – Improves the ability to attempt multiple blocks in succession. Allows players to quickly go back up for another block attempt upon landing.
Post Move Lockdown – Improves the defender’s ability to defend post moves. Increases the chances of a defender preventing an offensive post move from succeeding.
Rebound Chaser – Improves a player’s ability to chase down rebounds. Improves a player’s ability to track down rebounds from farther distances than normal.
Rim Protector – Improves ability to block shots, gives boost to the Takeover meter for blocker/teammates. Improves player’s ability to block shots, unlocks special block animations and gives boost to the Takeover meter for the blocker and blocker’s teammates following a block.
Tireless Defender – Reduces the energy lost when exerting effort on defense. Allows defenders to play defense more aggressively without losing energy at the same rate as a normal player.
Trapper – Makes life difficult for the offensive players when trapped. When trapping offensive players, defenders are more effective at forcing pick ups and turnovers than normal.
Worm – Allows rebounders to swim or spin around box outs more easily. When boxed out, rebounders have more success swimming around and getting into successful rebound position.

NBA 2K21 My Player – How to Upgrade Attributes, Attribute Upgrade Available

In NBA 2K21 the My Player mode returns with the overall goal once again being to increase your player to a 99 ranking. To do this you’re going to need to upgrade your My Player attributes. In this guide we’ll explain how to upgrade your attributes in NBA 2K21 My Player.

Upgrade Your Level Cap – Attribute Upgrade Available

The first thing you need to know about upgrading attributes is that you will be met with a cap on how good you can be, initially. You will need to upgrade your attribute cap before progressing all the way to level 99 so keep that in mind. When you see that there is a “Attribute Upgrade Available” it means that you’ve increased the cap on your attributes. You still need to purchase the actual attribute points. Upgrading Attributes is done through collecting My Points . One of the easiest ways to get the My Points to level up your attributes is to go to the practice sessions prior to games in My Career.

*It’s worth noting that if you are grinding My Player from the beginning with out any extra VC. You will not have the ability to level this high at this time anyway as you just won’t have enough VC to take advantage of the level cap increase.

Purchasing Attribute Points

You can purchase attribute points in the Progression Menu of My Career. These points are capped in different areas depending on how you’ve elected to distribute the potential points when initially creating your character. Each time you want to improve an area of your game you’re going to need to spend some VC. In My Player you can earn VC by playing career games as well as through a myriad of online and offline activities in the game. Alternatively, you can purchase VC in bundles if grinding isn’t your thing.

Simply use the d-pad to increase whichever attribute you want to increase and you will see the VC cost on the right side of the screen. Press the corresponding button to check out, and if you have the necessary amount of VC to make the purchase the attributes will be applied.

What modes will NBA 2K21 feature?

It's not easy to continually challenge yourself to be the best when there's a lack of competition. Yet 2K has managed to do just fine with the NBA 2K series without another console basketball game pushing it (at least you tried, NBA Live), and NBA 2K21 should once again be among the best looking on the market. But this time around, the developer will have some extra power to play with by the end of the year, thanks to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

When is the NBA 2K21 release date on Xbox One and PS4?

The exciting part about the NBA 2K21 launch this year is going to be the staggered nature of when people will be playing it. With new consoles not expected to hit until right toward the end of 2020, 2K likely won't be waiting until then to release. Using the last generation of consoles as an example, you can bet on seeing NBA 2K21 launch on current-gen consoles first, with a next-gen launch following whenever those consoles eventually release.

As for when NBA 2K21 will release, the NBA 2K franchise has long been an early fall release, with the last four iterations have been creeping earlier and earlier in September. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the hit in production and development that many teams have taken, it'll be interesting to see if NBA 2K21 is impacted by this. Combine that with the fact that the 2020-21 NBA season will likely have a delayed start - tipping off in December instead of October - thanks to their season being suspended earlier this year, and it might make sense for NBA 2K21 to hold off and launch alongside the NBA. However, the company hasn't released anything regarding a delay, so it's safe to assume the game will still launch sometime in the fall.

Will NBA 2K21 be a launch title for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?

Assuming that NBA 2K21 launches in its usual timeframe, it's highly likely that we will see it as a launch title for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Typically, sports games often launch alongside new consoles, and the NBA 2K series is no stranger to doing so, as NBA 2K14 launched right alongside the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One six years ago. Who will the cover athlete be for NBA 2K21?

This has been a subject of debate for some time, with NBA 2K keeping who will grace the cover a secret. With New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson introducing the games PS5 footage and being the subject of the trailer, many have come to believe it will be the rookie phenom who gets the cover treatment. However, many in the NBA 2K community believe that the honor should go to the late Kobe Bryant, who's untimely passing earlier this year shook the world of basketball.

Of course, there's the chance that NBA 2K could go with both superstars, giving Williamson the cover of the regular game while putting Bryant on the cover of a Legend edition, as they've done with other stars - like Dwyane Wade - in the past. No matter who they choose, though, they should have a ton of great options, as the league is blessed with several young rising stars who aren't going anywhere.

Typically, the NBA 2K features a handful of game modes that give you a chance to experience a little bit of everything in the basketball world. This will be no different in NBA 2K21, as we'll more than likely see the return of several modes that have become staples in the 2K series, including MyCareer, MyTeam, MyGM, and MyLeague, just to name a few. However, the folks behind NBA 2K do like to add in new game modes, so it wouldn't be shocking to see more get tossed in.

Last year, the game finally added the WNBA into the game, allowing players to play as all 12 WNBA teams in the games exhibition mode. While it was seen as an excellent move for the game, you could do little else with the players so that we may see more expanded WNBA gameplay options in NBA 2K21. Either way, it's safe to expect at least one new addition into the game whenever it's fully announced.

Will MyTeam in NBA 2K21 have position lock again?

One of the more controversial decisions by the team for NBA 2K20 is to limit positions in MyTeam to whatever was on their card. For example, if a player's card said he was a PF, he had to play there on the court, and every lineup had to consist of one player at the five traditional basketball positions (PG, SG, SF, PF, and C). Not only did this handcuff gamers; it wasn't representative of the NBA's evolution toward positionless basketball. And while 2K somewhat mitigated it by making the best cards eligible for two positions, the grumbling remained throughout the season.

Though 2K has yet to announce exactly what it plans to change for MyTeam for NBA 2K21, although here's hoping the developer add more solo content, for starters. It wouldn't be surprising to see position lock return, too, if only because it helps control the MyTeam squads in Unlimited online play. We're also keeping an eye on evolution's return, currently well-received so that that cards can progress to higher levels.

Will NBA 2K21 have a brand new story for MyCareer mode?

Even though MyTeam is the most popular mode and MyLeague arguably needs the most love, the last few NBA 2K games have had incredible MyCareer modes that aim to give players an intricate storyline to go along with their basketball games. From big-name voice talent to impressive production values, both "The Way Back" in NBA 2K19 and Che's saga in NBA 2K20 were winners.

That means that NBA 2K21 will almost certainly follow suit, if for no other reason than the series has already set a pretty high bar. The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will give the developers even more power with which to show off their creativity. The Neighborhood could also use a facelift or refresh for the rest of everyone's MyCareer play, and the new consoles would be the perfect excuse to reimagine the career hub.

Will NBA 2K21 support cross-platform play?

It wasn't all that long ago that the thought of players squaring off on the same servers for sports games on Sony and Microsoft systems was a pipe dream. But the times, they are a-changin', and titles like Fortnite and Rocket League, while not sports games, have set the framework for titles like NBA 2K21 to follow suit.

This is one area to watch once NBA 2K21 is unveiled, and would be warmly received by gamers everywhere. The developers behind NBA 2K21 haven't talked much about cross-platform play, but that won't stop fans from hoping for good news, so we'll just have to keep our ears open.

However, folk playing the game on current-generation platforms are experiencing a common error, 4b538e50, which stops you in your tracks from playing the game.

NBA 2K21 Error Code 4b538e50 – How To Fix

NBA 2K21 4b538e50 is very common, but it does mean you effectively can’t play the game until you fix the problem. 2K acknowledges the problem on its website , so there’s a couple of things you can do.

The first is to download the latest data, which basically means make sure you have the latest update installed on your PS4. Once it’s done, head back to the main menu so it can take effect and you should be good to go.

2. Your account email confirmation needs to be sent again, which can be achieved as follows:

Go to: https://www.nba2k.com
Click “Sign In” at the top-right of the screen
Enter your MyPLAYER account name AND password
When you log in successfully, this is an automatic verification of your account via the log in.

3. Another cause for the error code is that you have exceeded the amount of allowed NBA 2K accounts on your PS4. The total number you can have at any one time is five, so if you’ve eclipsed that amount, you will activate a security protocol that denies you access to the servers for any account other than the first five. As such, make sure you play on one of your five accounts that you created.

4. 2K also revealed that software could be blocking connection to the game’s servers. If this is the case, do the following:

On a computer ( which needs to be connected to the router you are currently using ), open the Windows menu, type “CMD” and press Enter.
In the command prompt, enter the following command: pathping -n 104.255.107.131
After a few seconds the command prompt is going to show some statistics. To copy the output, right-click anywhere in the window and select: Select All. Right click again and select Copy. Open Notepad. Press Ctrl+V to paste into Notepad.
Back at the prompt, type tracert 104.255.107.131 and press Enter. Please wait until the window says Trace Complete. Copy that information as well and send both of these documents to us as attachments

	time. I know this is a gameplay problem that is being patched, but shouldn't a slider / tendency at least have "some" impact? Some of the tendency ratings this year seem to have absolutely no impact if you change them. Which kind of defeats the point of having them...

NBA 2K21 Demo: 5 Things to Know

2K has released the NBA 2K21 demo and it allows you to try part of the game ahead of its release in September.

There isn’t an early NBA 2K21 release date this year which means the only way to play before its release on September 4th is via the NBA 2K21 demo.

Like the demos before it, the NBA 2K21 demo isn’t the full version of the game. Instead, it lets you to play a small portion of the latest edition which could help you decide if the full game is worth buying .

If you want to try NBA 2K21 before the official release date next month, here are the most important things you need to know right now about the demo’s release date, platforms, and more.

NBA 2K21 Demo Release Date & Time

The full version of NBA 2K21 hits current-generation platforms on September 4th. This is the release date for the standard edition and the Mamba Forever Edition .

The NBA 2K21 demo lets select players try the game two weeks before the game’s street date.

The NBA 2K21 demo was released on August 24th which means it’s available right now on select platforms.

It won’t disappear after the official NBA 2K21 release date in September either. It’s not a timed demo.

Who Can Play the NBA 2K21 Demo?

The full version of NBA 2K21 is officially headed to seven platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, PS5, and Xbox Series X. We expect a release for iOS and Android as well.

Unfortunately, the NBA 2K21 demo is limited to just three of those platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. We don’t expect a release for Windows PC at this time.

It’s unclear if there will be another NBA 2K21 demo for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

NBA 2K21 Demo Download Size

The NBA 2K21 demo requires a pretty big download.

While the the NBA 2K20 demo was around 17GB for PS4 and Xbox One, the NBA 2K21 demo is almost twice that size. It’s a 30GB download for PS4 and a 35GB download for Xbox One owners.

What’s in the NBA 2K21 Demo?

The NBA 2K21 demo includes four teams to play with (a list that includes the Clippers and Bucks) in quick games and you can also build out your MyPlayer character for use in the full version of the game.

The demo also includes some of the gameplay features game director Mike Wang outlined in a blog post earlier this month.

Among them are some major changes to the game’s Pro Stick. Here’s how the new Pro Stick will work on Sony’ PlayStation 4:

Hold RS down = jump shot
Hold RS left or right = escape dribble moves
Hold RS up = signature size-ups
Tap the RS = quick 1-to-1 dribble moves
Tap the RS with Sprint held = quick momentum dribble moves

How Much Does the NBA 2K21 Demo Cost?

You don’t have to pre-order a copy of NBA 2K21 to play the demo. The NBA 2K21 demo is a free download for all Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch owners.

PGA Tour 2K21 Beginner's Guide

There are some video games you spend months eagerly anticipating before snagging them at the absolute earliest moment possible, and then there are others you might be perfectly content to wait for until they go on sale — or even become a free monthly game on the PlayStation Network for those with a PS Plus subscription . With PGA Tour 2K21 now free for the rest of October, it seems like a good idea to put together a PGA Tour 2K21 beginner’s guide for those who are now going to check it out.

For those who are willing to give the game a shot, there are some things that might be good to know before you leave the clubhouse and head out for the first tee. Here’s a helpful overview of what you can expect from PGA Tour 2K21 and some helpful hints on how to make the most of your experience so you don’t end up tossing an iron into the nearest water hazard and heading for the parking lot before you even reach the back nine.

Embrace Your MyPlayer

If you’re starting out in PGA Tour 2K21 and are excited about the opportunity to take control of some of the real golfers that you regularly see play on the PGA Tour, then you might want to take a seat and brace for some bad news. While you’re able to play against actual pros in tournaments, you’re only ever able to use the MyPlayer golfer that you create when you first load up the game. This is bound to be disappointing for some, but at least there’s plenty you can do to customize your own golfers to make them as unique as possible using various physical attributes within the creation suite.

As for the abilities that you’ll use on the course, you’ll notice that there’s no way to shape your own specific strengths and weaknesses like you would in other sports titles like NBA 2K22 and there’s a decent reason for this. That’s because all golfers in PGA Tour 2K22 are created equal, at least from a physical standpoint, ensuring a level playing field where success or failure rests solely on your own skills with the controller. This will sadly dash the plans of anyone who had plans of creating some beefy powerhouse capable of driving the ball for miles (and maybe lacking a little something in the putting department), but it’s ultimately more of a feature than a bug that you can focus instead on learning to consistently hit good shots.

Dress For Success

Though it’s necessary to accept the limitations in how far you can hit the ball, PGA Tour 2K21 does offer an interesting element of strategy in what clubs you want to carry with you on the course. If you want to pack the driver with the biggest punch, you’ll also have to be prepared for a smaller margin of error when controlling those shots to find the fairway with any consistency. All clubs have their own inherent quirks, so don’t be afraid to try out different ones from time to time to see how they work for you.

Because you can only carry so many clubs in your bag, there are bound to be some gaps in their distances, and it’s up you to assess what you consider to be the highest priorities, whether that’s having more woods, irons, or wedges. Aside from selecting types of clubs, you can then also add some flair to them by adding colors and designs to the shafts and grips.

Speaking of flair, don’t sleep on all of the amazing threads available to you. With options ranging from stylish to downright silly, you’ll find no shortage of recognizable brands and places to put them on your body, from the hats on the top of your head right down to the socks and shoes on your feet.

It doesn’t matter whether you want to compete looking like a million bucks or just want to be that guy who wears a pumpkin on his head (’tis the season after all), the game’s shop has you covered. It’s been long enough after the game’s release now for the sheer amount of attire to be slightly overwhelming and there’s still the occasional addition from time to time depending on the season.

Stick Your Shots

Let’s face it, there are some people who will never be able to accept anything other than a three-click system when it comes to hitting the ball in a golf game. This is likely because that’s what they came to love back when they were playing Tiger Woods games on a PS2 (and that’s fine). They’ll be upset to learn that not only are you not able to use anything other than one of the sticks to hit your shots in PGA Tour 2K21 , but the game also eschews the kind of arcade-style play from those older games that allowed you to put backspin on the ball while a ball was in the air in favor of something closer to a simulation.

Ultimately, the tempo and angle at which you push the stick down and up will be the biggest deciding factor in what happens to every shot you make, so take the time to calibrate your swing and learn how to get optimal results while on the driving range. There are also other factors to consider, and these are the same sorts of things that you’d want to bear in mind in real life, such as your lie, the wind in play, and whether you happen to be standing on any sort of significant slope at all.

When it comes to putting, reading the break of a green and negotiating the proper amount of power will help you immensely, and it will take some time and practice to develop a feel for how putts from various distances will move as they approach the hole.

Career Opportunities

For those who want to pit their skills against those aforementioned real pros, PGA Tour 2K21 has a career mode where you can do just that, allowing you to start out on the lesser Korn Ferry Tour until you’re ready to be promoted to the real PGA Tour alongside greats like cover star Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau (though you’ll have to wait until the next title in the series to see Tiger Woods).

This functions well enough in that you feel as if you’re really competing against the titans of the sport that you enjoy watching on the weekends. However, even with some tweaking of the mode’s settings, you may find that there are still some issues with balancing the other scores on the leaderboard so you’re not always running away from the pack. It would also be nice if the game were to implement a tiebreaker at the end of events should two or more golfers end up tied at the end of the final round.

Fortunately, there are other ways to extend your career beyond playing only against CPU players if you’re searching for even more of a challenge and are curious to see how you’ll do against other humans. Online Societies that have been created by other players allow you to participate in regularly scheduled events (if they’re a good and reliable society at least) to see if you can achieve the best score.

Aside from the thrill of learning how you measure up compared to others, you can also earn some coin rewards depending on how many others have played and where you finish. If you want to take this concept to the next level, you may want to consider joining the TGC Tours , a website that organizes weekly events, compiles scores from across all platforms, and can see you getting promoted or demoted across various flights based on how you finish.

Online Head-To-Head Play

If you’re someone who would rather any online play be done head-to-head against opponents so you can witness their shots and determine clear winners and losers at the end of the round, PGA Tour 2K21 has plenty of options that will satisfy most of your needs. Aside from your basic one-on-one matches, you can also expand your horizons to include some of the more adventurous online playlists like skins matches, alt shot with pairs, or even the Divot Derby mode that has you playing speed golf against 19 other players. It can be frustrating when people quit in the middle of rounds as they begin to sense losing is imminent, but assuming the game correctly registers your victory, it can be another way to earn some coins that you can use to continue buying new clothes, clubs, and accessories.

A bigger issue is that PGA Tour 2K21 doesn’t have any sort of tiers or levels that you either ascend or descend depending on your result — something you see in a game like Rocket League — thereby making matchmaking something of a crapshoot and minimizing the consequences of each round that you play. If the next title in the series could figure out how to institute something like this, it would go a long way towards having you feel as if there’s more incentive to play these online modes. This would allow you to be confident that you will face someone roughly on your skill level and that there would be a little more on the line than perhaps winning or losing some relatively inconsequential coins.

Course Creator

As someone who has never actually designed any courses in PGA Tour 2K21 , I may not be able to give you any tips on the best way to go about doing that, but I can tell you that many others seem to be really good at it. Aside from the game’s official real courses that have been recreated in painstaking detail, one of the best things about the game is the sheer volume of amazing courses that people have made within the game and are available for anyone to play.

From wild fictional fantasy courses to innovative mini-putt layouts to gorgeous renderings of real-life courses both famous and obscure, there’s never any shortage of fun ones to try out. PGA Tour 2K21 tips have become essential once again following the news that rival game EA Sports PGA Tour is delayed indefinitely. Fancy picking up PGA Tour 2K21 at a budget price and building yourself into a virtual club-swinging phenomenon? Then all your key scouting intel can be found below, right down to intricate strategic details such as understanding wind and use of the Scout Cam. Don't tee off until you've fully mastered these eight vital PGA Tour 2K21 tips.

1. Swing straight

The very first thing you need to do is master your swing. To the bottom right of the screen, you will see a white bar (Swing Plane) that highlights the straightness of your drive. Spending time at the practice range is so important in making sure you master this skill. If you are facing a heavy wind resistance, a precise swing can be the difference between landing on the fairway or drifting into the rough. Pulling back on your chosen analogue stick is the backswing and pushing up is the downswing. Doing this as straight as possible provides the most accurate shot.

2. Time your swing correctly

Another important aspect of your swing is getting the timing right. If your downswing is too fast, you hook the ball and reduce the power of the shot. Hitting the ball too slowly slices the ball, and overpowers your shot. Again, if you are not familiar with PGA Tour 2K21’s controls, spend time at the practice range to get this down to a tee (no pun intended).

3. Scout Cam is your friend

The most useful tool in PGA Tour 2K21 is the Scout Cam. Pressing Triangle/Y before every shot automatically moves the camera to where the ball is going to land. The point of impact can affect every shot you take, so scouting the area makes a difference to your next move. You can assess whether the ground is flat or uneven, and whether there are any obstacles you need to avoid, such as a bunker, tall grass, or a body of water.

4. Pay attention to the wind

At the top of your screen, you can see the direction of the wind, as well as the speed in which it is travelling. If you are facing a heavy gust, your shot will blow away from your chosen landing spot, so it is vital you take the effects of Mother Nature into account. For example, if the wind is blowing in from the right at 8mph, hit the ball a couple of feet to the right so that the wind carries it to the spot you initially intended the ball to land on.

5. Make use of True Shot

One of the best tools at your disposal is True Shot. By pressing and holding L1/LB, you activate True Shot, and from here you get a couple of options to refine your shot. If you are facing a protruding tree branch and need to ‘bend’ your shot, you can move the left trigger to apply draw or fade, essentially bending the curve around the obstacle so that you avoid hitting it. Not only that, but in True Shot you can adjust the angle by moving the left trigger up or down, meaning a high arch stops the ball from gliding across the fairway or putting green upon its landing. A more direct angle moves the ball further when it lands.

6. Putt to perfection

A myriad of factors can cause a putting attempt to miss the hole. Wind speed is one of them, as is the angle of the ground, and the distance from the ball to the hole. The most useful tool is the ability to watch the path of the ball, and you can do this by holding in X/B. This shows where the ball is likely to end up, as a white line simulates your shot. If it ends up a few inches away from the hole, you know to hit it slightly to the left or right, and if the ball is going to end up falling just short, you can increase the power of your shot by moving the right trigger forward.

7. Tailor the difficulty to suit you

PGA Tour 2K21 has a wide range of difficulty options, meaning you can customise exactly how much help you receive when playing. HB Studios has made sure your experience is as satisfying as it can be by including the ability to adjust various settings to tailor its difficulty. You can make swinging more challenging by decreasing the scale of timing and power. The option to remove the Scout Cam and Lie Grid takes away the information you have on the terrain, and disabling various Pro Vision options means you can’t activate True Shot or include the Shot Suggestion.

8. Manage your Golf Bag

Whilst there are a range of different shots to get your head around, picking the right clubs in your Golf Bag is just as important. Throughout your career, new clubs unlock, and you can spend Virtual Currency on a range of drivers, sand wedges, putters, and more. Pay close attention to the stats because they make a huge difference once you are on the course. Clubs with better Forgiveness allow for more error when swinging, improved Shot Shaping gives you wider draw and fade distances, and better Distance Control provides more range in your shots.
