The title summarizes the main idea or ideas of your study. A good title contains the fewest possible words that adequately describe the contents and/or purpose of your research paper.

The title is without doubt the part of a paper that is read the most, and it is usually read first . If the title is too long it usually contains too many unnecessary words, e.g., "A Study to Investigate the...." On the other hand, a title which is too short often uses words which are too general. For example, "African Politics" could be the title of a book, but it does not provide any information on the focus of a research paper.

Structure and Writing Style

The following parameters can be used to help you formulate a suitable research paper title:

  • The purpose of the research
  • The narrative tone of the paper [typically defined by the type of the research]
  • The methods used

The initial aim of a title is to capture the reader’s attention and to draw his or her attention to the research problem being investigated.

Create a Working Title Typically, the final title you submit to your professor is created after the research is complete so that the title accurately captures what was done . The working title should be developed early in the research process because it can help anchor the focus of the study in much the same way the research problem does. Referring back to the working title can help you reorient yourself back to the main purpose of the study if you feel yourself drifting off on a tangent while writing. The Final Title Effective titles in academic research papers have several characteristics.

  • Indicate accurately the subject and scope of the study.
  • Avoid using abbreviations.
  • Use words that create a positive impression and stimulate reader interest.
  • Use current nomenclature from the field of study.
  • Identify key variables, both dependent and independent.
  • May reveal how the paper will be organized.
  • Suggest a relationship between variables which supports the major hypothesis.
  • Is limited to 10 to 15 substantive words.
  • Do not include "study of," "analysis of" or similar constructions.
  • Titles are usually in the form of a phrase, but can also be in the form of a question.
  • Use correct grammar and capitalization with all first words and last words capitalized, including the first word of a subtitle. All nouns,  pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs that appear between the first and last words of the title are also capitalized.
  • In academic papers, rarely is a title followed by an exclamation mark. However, a title or subtitle can be in the form of a question.

The Subtitle Subtitles are quite common in social science research papers. Examples of why you may include a subtitle:

  • Explains or provides additional context , e.g., "Linguistic Ethnography and the Study of Welfare Institutions as a Flow of Social Practices: The Case of Residential Child Care Institutions as Paradoxical Institutions."
  • Adds substance to a literary, provocative, or imaginative title , e.g., "Listen to What I Say, Not How I Vote: Congressional Support for the President in Washington and at Home."
  • Qualifies the geographic scope of the research , e.g., "The Geopolitics of the Eastern Border of the European Union: The Case of Romania-Moldova-Ukraine."
  • Qualifies the temporal scope of the research , e.g., "A Comparison of the Progressive Era and the Depression Years: Societal Influences on Predictions of the Future of the Library, 1895-1940."
  • Focuses on investigating the ideas, theories, or work of a particular individual , e.g., "A Deliberative Conception of Politics: How Francesco Saverio Merlino Related Anarchy and Democracy."

Selecting a strand is a crucial act to every student in such way that they have to considered their financial status, parents and peer suggestion, and also their self-choice in acting on it. This study investigates whether financial status with self-choice; parents influence with self-choice; and peer influence with self-choice are having an association with each other in selecting a strand. 214 of students by complete enumeration answered the questionnaire on financial status and likert-scale for parental influence, peer influence, and self-choice and the data gathered been analyzed via weighted mean, frequency, chi-square and lambda in determining their association. The result shows that the financial status of students in school alone is inclined to self-choice in the selection of a strand but not with parental and peers influence in selecting a strand. In other words, parents and peers show no significant association with self-choice of students, though the influences of parents...

Choosing a senior high school career or tracks to pursue is one of the most challenging decisions any junior high school student may undertake. As a response, the objectives of this research were to investigate junior high school student's career preferences for senior high school studies, as well as the determinants that may influence their career selection. Using a stratified random sample technique, a total of one hundred sixty-six students were chosen at random. To quantify the influence of the indicated career selection determinants on students' career preferences, the researchers used a descriptive and predictive correlational research design. The required data was gathered using a standardized survey questionnaire. Personality, parents, job opportunities, and interest were found to be statistically significant in influencing and predicting students' career preferences, out of the five career selection determinants. In the model, only the peer component (LRT p-value = 0.110) was shown to be statistically insignificant. Among the career selection determinants, the variable interest was found to have the strongest influence on students' course preferences. It can be inferred that diverse career selection factors have statistically significant effects on students' senior high school career choices. Since students' preparation in senior high school is crucial to their subsequent studies in tertiary education, or employment after senior high school, the study gives vital inputs for students, parents, and school officials on how to lead and develop their career plans. A similar study may well be conducted using additional course selection characteristics discussed in the study, or this study could be conducted in a different location to corroborate or refute the findings.

The choice of a course and which school to enter in college is one of the major decisions faced by graduating students which is an important element of their learning process. The course and school selection decision will most likely define their future success. The paper was aimed at assessing the students? course and school preference using a descriptive research design. A survey was administered to respondents totaling 2,231 comprised of grade 12 students enrolled in La Consolacion University Philippines (LCUP) during the second semester of school year 2017-2018. Findings revealed that Accountancy, Education and Hotel and Restaurant Management were the three courses most preferred. However, LCUP was not the top school of choice among respondents. Seven out of ten most preferred courses are current offerings at LCUP, three of which are board courses. The provision of a more intensive internal marketing program is suggested. Likewise, a study on the impact of programs and services and their influence on career and school selection decisions may be conducted to determine which program or service made available to senior high students singly or in combination are determinants of their retention. Follow-up research on the reasons why students choose a course or a school may be also be considered.

Choosing the right career path is becoming more and more important for young students today. Students have to take into account many things when choosing a career and college major. The main objective of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the choice of school and degree program of first-year students. It utilized the descriptive survey method of research with first-year students from a teacher education college as respondents. The researcher used the structured self-administered questionnaire covering all the variables on a four-point Likert scale that has been modified and adapted from several authorities in the field of Education. Students strongly agreed that it was their personal choice to enroll in their chosen school and degree program. They also strongly agreed that one of the reasons for choosing the school is its wellknown high-quality standards, well-qualified instructors/professors and the school’s ability to become home of board passers. Thus, there was a high level of interest in their chosen degree program.

Senior high school is for college preparation and aims to enhance the skills of the student. Grade 12 students encounter more challenges that will hone them to be ready in the future. The course is the field that students have chosen. Often, a student is the one responsible for deciding about their college course. There are instances that parents are the ones deciding the college course for their children. Quantitative-descriptive, which was used here, is a method that attempts to collect quantifiable information to be used for statistical analysis of the population sample used to determine the relationship between one thing and another in a population. The computed weighted means for male and female participants in terms of parents’ choice, peer influence, and financial aspect were 3.33 and 3.27, both of which had the verbal interpretation of agree. Based on the findings of the study and conclusions that were drawn, the following recommendations were drawn. A parent should know the suitable course for their child so they can explain properly and they need to know what the passion of their children is. Parents should introduce the courses accurately and precisely to prevent the students to have a false impression of the course. Students should be practical and get a scholarship to have discounts for some school fees, such as miscellaneous and tuition fees. Students should also take the course that their family can afford and take an in-demand course to easily find a job.
