Can Computer Replace Books Completely?

There has been a lot of talks lately arguing that the computer will soon replace the book in our life. But is it truly possible? After all, they are both valuable assets of our civilization and possess positive and negative features.

One may say that computers are far more effective because they are much more convenient – unlike them, printed books don’t have an option of automatic search, and in order to find the necessary fragment, you have to look through the entire text. Books are ineffective as a source of containing information, while computer’s hard drive can easily contain many thousands of books, being as transportable as any single volume. Moreover, a computer is more helpful when it is necessary to get some information quickly, for you have nothing to do but enter the necessary word into the search engine and skim through the results, whereas in the case of using books you have to go to the library or a book shop.

On the other hand, books possess an unquestionable cultural, symbolic, and aesthetic value that a computer lacks completely. A lot of people say that reading electronic texts is nothing near to holding an actual book in your hands, feeling the smell of paper and turning the pages as you read. Besides, reading books is not accompanied by harmful radiation that is inevitable when you use computers – certain individuals are even physically incapable of reading e-text for a long time.

So who will win the future? Having looked through pro et contra, I think that books can be replaced by computers as the …

It is said that, in the advancing technological era, the internet has become an increasingly popular choice by people for seeking information. Anyway, I firmly believe that the essence of books and written information will remain noticed, as they continue to serve as the most essential tools for reference and education.

Firstly, without doubt, the internet is progressively emerging as a primary source for research. Its efficiency and extensive reach often lead us to turn to the web for information. However, it is worth noting that navigating the vast sea of online content can be quite challenging at times. We sometimes find ourselves struggling to pinpoint precisely what we need. Paradoxically, in certain instances, the traditional library and printed books prove to be more straightforward and reliable. To note, online information can sometimes be misleading and requires careful scrutiny.

To mention, the books have been with us for many thousands of years and were used for enjoyment purposes as well. For example, during ancient times, reading stories during bedtime was considered one of the favourite activities. In today’s world, although a variety of activities are able to fill in our spare time, it is still quite common for most people to read books. Of course, they are not only used for our leisure time but also to gain knowledge as well.

In conclusion, while the prevalence of computer technology and the internet may reduce our reliance on books for information, traditional books will for sure endure since they are deeply ingrained in our leisure activities and continue to be indispensable tools for education.

Meaning: the fundamental nature or most important quality of something

Example: The essence of a good story is a compelling plot and well-developed characters.

Meaning: covering a large area or having a wide range

Example: The library had an extensive collection of rare books.

Meaning: finding one’s way through or planning a path

Example: Navigating through the dense forest was challenging but rewarding.

  • Paradoxically

Meaning: in a seemingly contradictory manner

Example: Paradoxically, the smaller smartphone had more features than the larger one.

Meaning: giving a wrong idea or impression

Example: The misleading headline of the article caused confusion among readers.

Meaning: the fact of being widespread or common

Example: The prevalence of social media has transformed how we communicate.

Meaning: firmly established or deeply rooted

Example: Her love for art was ingrained in her from a young age.

In the age of rapid technological advancement, the question of whether modern technology, including the Internet and computers, will supplant traditional books and the written word as the primary source of information is a subject of considerable discussion. I am inclined to agree with the fact that modern technology will continue to expand its dominance, anyways this essay will discuss about both sides.

To begin with, the internet and computers have undeniably revolutionized the way we access and disseminate information. With the click of a mouse or a tap on a screen, a wealth of information becomes instantly available. For instance, E-books and digital libraries have made reading more accessible and portable, and multimedia content has enhanced our learning experiences. Moreover, the internet provides a platform for collaboration and sharing of ideas on a global scale, which is impossible with printed books.

Nevertheless, traditional books and written content remain an integral part of our information landscape. Books offer a unique reading experience, allowing readers to disconnect from digital distractions and engage with content more deeply. The physical presence of a book on a shelf or in one’s hands has a sentimental value that digital formats cannot replicate. Additionally, certain types of information, such as historical archives and specialized academic texts, continue to rely on printed materials for their authenticity and reliability.

To conclude, while modern technology has expanded its influence over information dissemination, books and the written word will not be entirely supplanted. The two will coexist, offering distinct advantages, and catering to different preferences in an increasingly digital age.

Meaning: To replace or take the place of something, especially gradually.

Example: Digital media may supplant printed newspapers as the primary source of news in the future.

Meaning: Having a tendency or preference for a particular belief or action.

Example: She is inclined to support environmentally friendly initiatives.

  • Eco-friendly

Meaning: Not harmful to the environment; designed to have a minimal impact on nature.

Example: The new packaging is eco-friendly and biodegradable.

  • Collaboration

Meaning: The act of working together with others to achieve a common goal.

Example: The successful project was the result of effective collaboration among team members.

  • Authenticity

Meaning: The quality of being genuine or real, as opposed to being fake or counterfeit.

Example: The art expert confirmed the authenticity of the ancient painting.

  • Sentimental

Meaning: Relating to or based on feelings of affection, nostalgia, or emotional attachment.

Example: The old watch had sentimental value because it was a family heirloom.

  • Reliability

Meaning: The quality of being trustworthy or dependable.

Example: The reliability of the new software was tested extensively before its release.

  • Dissemination

Meaning: The act of spreading or distributing something, such as information or knowledge, to a wider audience.

Example: The dissemination of educational materials through online platforms has increased access to learning resources.

The world over, the use of contemporary devices is becoming more and more commonplace. E-books and news websites, in my opinion, will take the place of printed books and newspapers.

Firstly, a lot of publishing houses started offering e-books for sale in place of physical ones because reading e-books has become more popular among young people than reading traditional books. This generation believes that compared to reading printed books, ebooks are simpler and more enjoyable. For example, a day’s news can change in a second, but newspapers will be unable to update their content every second. With this, many people think that news on websites is more dependable and updated more quickly than news in newspapers.

Secondly, technology in today’s world is astoundingly advancing. As a result, new technological advancements are added to modern devices nearly on a daily basis and a lot of tech enthusiasts are closely following all these advancements. Adding on to this, even the MNCs and small companies are obliged to keep their products up to date. For instance, though Radical was the most widely read newspaper in Turkey, the publishing company had to change its marketing tactics due to the rising advancements in the world of technology. Because of this, it was even made the decision last year to stop printing the newspaper on paper and instead start publishing news on a website that requires a fee to access.

In conclusion, today the majority of people’s time is spent online and they prefer to read books, newspapers, and even play games on it because of this. Hence, they mostly pick e-books and electronic gadgets rather than paper ones. With all this, I believe that printed books will only be found in libraries and will not be frequently purchased in the future.

  • Contemporary

Meaning: Modern or current.

Example: Contemporary art often challenges traditional notions of aesthetics.

  • Astoundingly

Meaning: In a manner that amazes or astonishes.

Example: The progress in medical research has been astoundingly rapid.

  • Advancements

Meaning: Developments or improvements in technology or knowledge.

Example: The recent advancements in renewable energy have the potential to revolutionize the power industry.

  • Enthusiasts

Meaning: People who are passionate or highly interested in a particular subject or activity.

Example: There are many photography enthusiasts who enjoy capturing beautiful moments.

  • Marketing tactics

Meaning: Strategies or methods used for promoting and selling products.

Example: Successful marketing tactics can significantly boost a company’s sales.

  • Publishing houses

Meaning: Companies that produce and distribute books and other written materials.

Example: Many famous authors work with major publishing houses to release their novels.

Computers Will Soon Replace Books

Filed Under: Essays Tagged With: E-book

There has been a lot of talk lately concerning the possibility of computers replacing the position of books in our life. I believe it is truly possible. Many years ago, people used books for everything related to education. In fact, the human’s best source of knowledge and education was the book. But computers have gained popularity in a very short amount of time and everyone at least has one somewhere around their house. We have the need to use computers for everything. All we have to do is give the computer instructions and it does all the hard work for us. I am going to discuss the benefits that computer has to offer to its users. Firstly, computers are much better than books because a modern computer can hold a billion times more information than the average 400-800-page book. If you want to do a research about anything, it would take you at least an hour just to find the right book but by using a computer, you can find the same information in less than 5 minutes.

Many people including me use the internet as a dictionary, finding definitions, so this way only takes the time to type the word. A laptop computer equal to the size and weight of a book holds data about any topic you can think of. A book only covers a specific topic. A computer can hold much more types of data than a book. When you carry one computer, you are carrying a hundred thousand books. Secondly, everyone would agree that an e-books cost much less to produce and less to buy than an actual paper books. The information in a digital format can be shared easily by email or by copying the files onto someone else’s computer or simply by transferring it into your USB drive. It is also easier to edit the information. This makes it overall more convenient for students who might not be able to afford one copy of a book each and who don’t want to make notes and underline points. Free information means at least cheap education.

Who would not like a cheaper education? There are numerous websites like Google (search free textbooks in your subject area) and Google books, permit students with a limited budget to get what they want without having to spend large amounts of cash. Free e-books make education accessible and cheap thus more widespread. Last but not least, the most obvious reason why computers are making our lives better is by reducing the number of trees that are cut down for the production of books. I agree that an eBook is not 100 percent green and is far from it. But if you are comparing eBooks to other paperback books, eBooks certainly take the lead. According to “The e-Book Apocalypse” article, twenty-four trees are required to produce a ton of paper for printing books, and twelve are needed for a ton of newsprint. Thirty-five percent of those books printed are destroyed before they are even read. In 2009, eBook readers took off and the latest reading trend began to grow.

In 2010, these reading devices became more popular and started sparking the attention of people everywhere. Some of this attention came from the idea that this new was a huge breakthrough in an effort to save our planet, which I find most definitely possible. To conclude, I understand change, whether it is for the good or the bad, is always a difficult and uncomfortable thing. That is the only reason why the whole world has not yet made the shift from traditional books to e-books. Now, there might be few advantages to paper. But I see a lot more advantages to digital. The fact that I now carry about a hundred books with me, wherever I go, that I can read whenever I want, outweighs any advantage a paper book could give me. Digital books are here to stay and there is no doubt that within a few years we will look at paper books as something saved from the past.

Why Technology Can Never Replace Books.

computer will soon replace the book essay

“A home without books is a body without soul.” ~ Cicero

About three months ago, I was visiting relatives at their new place. Approaching the last room, I noticed there wasn’t any sort of small library—or even a shelf holding a book or two.

The shelves were empty, and I guessed they were still deciding on what to do with them. Being an absolute lover of reading, I suggested they get books, or build a small library—the couches were especially perfect for reading sessions.

When I said this, one of my relatives pointed a finger to the television next to me and said, “Who needs a book when you have a TV?”

Lost for words, I stood still.

In my family, we were raised on books. You can find a library in every room you enter; books literally invade our space. I consider books an essential part of everyone’s life, and I respect and admire anyone with a book in his hand.

To glimpse people with books is soul-elevating, and extremely promising.

In my opinion, televisions, electronic books, cellphones, computers and any other form of modern technology can never take the place of a book. If you asked me why, I would say stones can never replace diamonds.

Here are five reasons why I think books are irreplaceable:

1. Pleasure.

When I was still at school, I used to feverishly wait to buy the books for the upcoming semester. In class, I would stick my head between the fresh pages and keep on smelling them ’til I was out of breath.

The truth is, there is a pleasure in books that no computer or cellphone can replace. It’s about the feel of the hard cover, the sound of turning the pages, the smell of paper and the ability to hold the entire book in my lap like a newborn baby. I even enjoy when my eyes grow tired and the letters become blurry.

It’s also a pleasure to fall asleep with a book in hand, and to wake up next to one. At least a book doesn’t have any radiation exposure that might cause our system harm—it’s completely safe!

2. Library Enjoyment.

I always say, “Put me in a library, and I can live there forever.” For me, visiting a library is pure joy. Friends who frequently accompany me know that it’s almost impossible for me to leave in less than one or two hours.

Frankly, shopping for a tablet is way different than shopping for a book. A library is a representation of the past, the present and the future. It’s a place where the living and the dying are joined together on shelves. There is an inexplicable satisfaction in walking between the shelves, smelling the books, reading the titles and touching the covers.

Libraries are like heaven filled with words. Wherever we look we can see letters in different sizes and shapes. I consider experiencing a library similar to experiencing enlightenment. No thoughts; no mental or emotional distractions—only peace of mind.

3. A Tribute to the Past.

The world today has come a long way in the history of writing. From the Egyptian hieroglyphs to the Indus script, this earth has witnessed many indigenous ways of writing before the keyboard was invented. Before the invention of the pen, the ancients wrote with a quill and ink.

Sadly, the usage of computers nowadays has altered the history of writing. We no longer appreciate where we are today. Thus, I reckon that reading a book is a form of paying tribute to the past.

Books are a bridge that links us to all the great writers. They remind us of Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, James Joyce, Thoreau and so many other authors and poets who are an unforgettable gift to the world.

4. Freedom of Choice and Discipline.

I associate reading a book with the freedom of choice. When we go to buy a book, we know what we want, and we basically get it. If we don’t like what we have seen, we deliberately walk out of the library empty-handed.

Technology, however, has limited this freedom. Personally, if I go online to search for something specific, I end up staying on the internet for at least two hours when all I needed was five minutes. Same goes for watching television; instead of watching one movie, we end up watching two.

The reason? Modern technology is limitless, and humans are greedy by nature. On the other hand, a book is limited. It creates discipline in our life and a practice for choosing what we want—not what is available to us.

5. A Best Friend.

For some, a dog is a best friend; for me, a book is. A book has the capability of acting as a loyal partner. It is our property that can never leave us. We hold it, we fall asleep with it, we take it with us to other countries, we read it and we feel every word.

A relationship between a book and a person is an unbreakable one. There are books I have read that I can never forget; they work as a daily reminder in my head, and as eminent teachers.

Moreover, books are memories from actual friends. I am awed by the vintage books that my mother owns, some of which are memories from old friends she never saw again.

Realistically, we can’t live without modern technology. We can’t deny that it makes our lives a whole lot easier. But I think that we should never forget the presence of a book.

A book is a friend, a lover and a part of us.

It is the only bond that connects us with the past and builds the hopes of the future.

Hold a cell phone and carry a laptop. But never fail to put a book in your bag. It works wonders!

The Computers will soon replace the Book The feeling of rough paper on your fingertips, the familiar smell of a book fresh out of print... Would you really wish for these to become mere memories, lost and worthless? Would you want to go to a library where there were no books, only an electronic catalogue to browse through for electronic text? I know I would not appreciate such a world.

Books are essential to the world. They have been around for centuries and have become widely appreciated and almost every living soul has owned a book. What would our world come to if the only book left in the world was hat book sitting behind a glass wall in the local museum? There have been many arguments about books using up world resources. E-books have been introduced that you can use to download online versions of text and novels. These do save trees from being cut down and reduce the usage of the Earth's resources.

However, as the world is growing even more aware of our diminishing resources, more 'green' methods and alternatives to reduce this loss are being Introduced. In the united Kingdom, already, two of the top five publishers of books have Introduced the new paper policies to use 'Ancient Forest Friendly book papers, which are free of ancient forest fibers and contain one hundred percent recycled fiber.Six million books have already been printed in such a manner, and more will continue to do so, leaving little worry for our depleting resources. As for E-books, it can be said that they are the better choice for books.

They can store thousands of books and they allow you to purchase books as electronic text without ever having to go out to a bookstore to buy them. However, the downsides are plentiful. These E-books cost much more than a single book and this might prove inconvenient for those who only wish to purchase one or two nooks.

an essay on "computers will soon replace the books"

computer will soon replace the book essay

Angel Jacob answered this

Jain answered this

Computers will soon replace books     There has been a lot of talk lately concerning the possibility of computers replacing the position of books in our life. The information in a digital format can be shared easily by email or by copying the files onto someone else's computer or simply by transferring it into your USB drive. It is also easier to edit the information. This makes it overall more convenient for students who might not be able to afford one copy of a book each and who don’t want to make notes and underline points.

WRITE AN ESSAY AGAINST THE TOPIC " COMPUTER WILL SOON REPLACE THE BOOK"

rishabh16katiyar

Explanation:

Computers have already taken a major role as an information resource today. Computer technologies such as hypertext and the Internet remove the geographical constraints of print media and allow for a new method of distributing and reading documents. Books will always be affordable, concrete source of information, but the next ten years will bring computers that are faster to access comma as convenient to use and that hold more information than books.

With the Internet, one piece of information is accessible from millions of computers around the world. Researcher may need to travel no further than her computer to find a document in a virtual library 3000 miles away.

In next 20 years, print media may not be able to keep up with the exponential growth of information. Because the density of information on a computer is far greater than that of book, the Internet already holds more data than any physical library. Typical computer hard drive can hold around 2000 novels. In addition to this seemingly unlimited storage capacity, computers also provide much faster access to information. For example, looking upwards in a dictionary may take a few minutes while computers can give the definition for any word and pronounce it for you, immediately. The computers speed and space will make it is necessary Technology as we move into a new Millennium.

The future will bring even greater advantages to the computer over the book. Soon, computers will have screens that are crisper and more comfortable to view than a printed book. With new technology, computer screens will no longer strain the eyes and it will become feasible, even desirable to read an entire novel on a computer screen. Technology will soon produce a computer that is as compact, durable and comfortable to read as a book, but that could contain thousands of books in electronic form. Although computers will never completely supplant books but we may soon rely on them more than print media.

Hope it will be helpful for you
