The Importance of School Playgrounds

School playgrounds are essential for fostering play and collaboration. They provide kids with a designated area to play and learn. Playing on a playground also allows kids to build developmental skills and explore new things. Plus, playgrounds allow students to get exercise during the school day. Keep reading to learn about the history of school playgrounds and discover their importance.

The History of School Playgrounds

Playgrounds for schools have a rich history in the United States. Parks have long had a place in public spaces as foundational spaces for socializing and community building. In the past, people even had picnics and visited with each other in the neighborhood cemeteries. Plus, before Industrialization, humans lived a more pastoral life on the whole, with many people living on plots of land where their children would play.

Industrialization changed many things about human existence, including outdoor socialization. With the beginning of larger farms, families who relied on their small farms lost business and had to move to the cities. This move happened so quickly, and so many people moved to the cities that the quality of living conditions decreased rapidly. As a result, welfare organizations decided to begin a movement to provide spaces for children to play and enjoy the outdoors outside of their cramped and often unsanitary living quarters.

The playground movement gained traction  beginning in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 1800s. The motivations behind this movement were to provide areas where children could practice becoming responsible citizens. These early playground designers took inspiration from German outdoor gymnasiums , which aimed to promote fitness and lower diseases in children by placing play equipment near schools.

Outdoor gymnasiums and sand gardens later developed into more dynamic apparatuses that swung and spun. This early playground equipment featured steel pipes, chains and ladders, many of which would be considered extremely dangerous by today’s standards.

In the later 20th century, child psychologists, doctors and other health specialists began to think about how playgrounds could assist in children’s social, emotional and physical development. They found that certain playground elements were able to excite the fascination and imagination of children , such as fantasy elements and interesting features. Additionally, there began to be a larger focus on safety , so equipment began to have more rounded edges and soft ground cover to prevent injuries.

Types of Playgrounds

There are hundreds of different types of playground configurations, so narrowing playgrounds into a few types can be tricky. However, there are a few specific playground categories to recognize when considering different types of school playgrounds. Here are two main playground categories:

Age Group Playgrounds

The first relevant category refers to the age range. While most people think of playgrounds as intergenerational spaces, specific safety concerns exist for children of different ages. As a result, most safety considerations take a few other age groups into account:

• Early childhood 5 and under:   Children under 5  have unique needs regarding playground equipment. These children are still developing their abilities to run, jump and play, so this playground equipment has special considerations. Factors like height and other components help make sure kids are safe while allowing them to participate in fun and engaging activities.
• School-age 5 to 12:   Kids in the 5 to 12 range  have developed most of their physical capacities, so they’re able to run and jump with relative ease without assistance. These playgrounds may have more daring climbing elements and heights to present fun challenges for these children. These playgrounds may pose certain risks for children under 5 years old, so having a separate play space for younger children is crucial.
• School-age 9 and up:  Since some older kids may not want to play on the playground anymore, they can play on fitness equipment. Manufacturers design  fitness equipment to provide  spaces for guided stretches and bodyweight activities that build strength and can encourage collaboration.

Themed Playgrounds

Another essential consideration when it comes to playgrounds is the designated theme. Some of the best playgrounds for kids have a unique theme that can inspire creativity and imagination. There are a variety of exciting and fun themes you can organize your playground around:

• Natural:  A natural theme plays on elements from the natural world, using trees, rocks and even dinosaur bones as inspiration for playground equipment. These nature-themed playgrounds often  feature rope courses and boulders  to climb on. Kids can pretend they’re exploring a magical forest or discovering dinosaurs on a digging expedition.
• Nautical:  Preparing for a long sea voyage? Children will love playing on  nautical-themed playground equipment  and pretending to travel the seas with components like steering wheels, portholes and even a whole ship.
• Modern:  A modern playground features more geometric patterns and shapes, with play cubes and netting. These playgrounds offer dynamic and unique climbing elements and  spinning structures  to engage and excite children.

Why Are Playgrounds Important in School?

There are many reasons a  school or  daycare playground  is a great idea. School playgrounds can help students grow into healthy young adults, from building valuable social skills to strengthening foundational muscle groups. Here are some benefits of playgrounds  for  school-aged kids  and reasons why schools need playgrounds:

Promotes Creativity and Imagination

Playtime is the perfect opportunity for kids to stretch their imaginations and show creativity. School playgrounds can enhance kids’ creativity and give them a new world to explore. Playground equipment has multiple elements that can stimulate imaginative and creative play, like slides, climbing equipment and swings. Kids can play everyday playground favorites — like king of the castle and hide-and-seek — or invent their own games to play.

Develops Motor Skills

While kids think they’re just playing and having fun on a playground, they’re developing a wide range of essential motor skills, like coordination and balance. Certain school playground equipment pieces help kids build their balance, coordination, muscle movements and more.

For example, some playgrounds may feature climbing elements, which help children build their arm and leg strength, balance and coordination. Swings can help children fine-tune motor skills as they grip the ropes or chains and hang on while swinging in the air. Here’s how kids can develop essential motor skills while playing on a playground:

• Gross motor skills:  Gross motor skills involve moving the arms, legs and torso muscle groups. These muscle groups allow kids to walk, run, jump, throw, kick and lift. Playground equipment like climbing walls, slides and swings help kids develop strength in their upper body, legs and abdomen. Developing these skills allows kids to build muscle and increase their body awareness.
• Coordination:  Many pieces of playground equipment encourage the development of coordination because kids have to coordinate movements between multiple parts of their bodies. For example, swinging requires coordination of the hands, arms and legs. A child must learn to grip the chains with their hands while simultaneously pumping their legs to generate the swinging movement. Playgrounds help children build coordination skills that will help them throughout their lives.

Develops Cognitive Abilities

Playing on a  playground helps stimulate nerve cells in the brain , which allows more connections to develop. The brain is continually evolving into adulthood, and play early in childhood can enable kids to make connections that aid in developing gross and fine motor skills. As kids grow and play, they’ll continue developing real-life skills like decision-making and problem-solving.

School playgrounds are great for kids to learn new vocabulary and language skills. Kids can learn new language skills from other kids by playing with and around them. They’ll learn to have conversations, listen when others talk and verbalize thoughts and feelings. Kids can also apply learned language skills through modeling and repetition on the playground. Narrating their actions on the playground is an excellent way for kids to put words into their activities. For example, saying aloud, “I’m sliding down the green slide,” can help kids conceptualize their actions.

Promotes Sensory Development

In school, teachers work hard to engage students. However, being outside can engage senses that are not practical in a classroom setting. Playing outside can build children’s connection to their senses — new sights, smells, textures and sounds can  help make nerve connections  in the brain. These connections will help develop children’s sensory awareness in addition to assisting them to explore and grow in their curiosity.

Playgrounds for schools help children engage all their senses, which extends their learning outside the classroom. Playing outside allows them to explore leaves, grass, flowers and even insects if they’re adventurous.

Develops Social and Emotional Skills

School playgrounds are also ideal play areas for building emotional and social skills. Kids learn to get along with their peers and play together through unstructured social interactions.

For example, kids may engage in conversation while swinging or playing games. In other instances, they’ll have to work together to accomplish something, like rotating the merry-go-round. They’ll also have to communicate to avoid conflict. For example, they will have to communicate who gets to go first down the slide or determine who gets the first turn on the seesaw.

As kids learn, disagreements and conflicts may arise. If emotions get high, a responsible adult can step in and coach them to find a solution to the issue. Kids may disagree, argue and challenge each other on the playground. While some arguments may need adult mediation, kids will begin resolving these issues independently. When given the opportunity, kids will develop the  necessary skills to work through their differences  with each other and resolve their conflicts.

At the playground, kids engage with different children and can learn about others’ experiences. These skills will help build empathy and encourage them to relate to others as they grow. As children engage in various social situations on the playground, they learn valuable lessons about frustration, empathy, sharing, communicating and helping others.

Learning to accept others’ differences and be empathetic toward everyone in the playground community prepares kids for working with various people throughout their life and in the workplace. Here are some social and emotional skills that kids can learn on playgrounds:

• Respecting boundaries

Promotes Community Awareness

Playgrounds promote community awareness by helping children build bonds with each other. While there may be students from a variety of  different backgrounds and of various abilities , there may be limited opportunities for kids to interact with others who may differ from them. The playground is where the students become a community and get first-hand experiences learning about others’ differences and how to interact with them. Children of all ethnicities, types of families, ability levels and ages can play together on the playground.

Additionally, while cooperating with other children at a playground, kids can build their leadership and communication skills, which are essential to participating in the community as responsible citizens.

Increases Physical and Immune Health

Many studies have documented the numerous benefits of exercise for children’s health. Playgrounds incorporate many different physical activities that stimulate children’s imagination in a way that gets them moving. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that  physical exercise has a host of benefits  for children, including:

• Improving cardiorespiratory health.
• Building strong bones.
• Increasing muscle development.
• Reducing anxiety and stress.

Playing on a playground can also help strengthen children’s immune systems because it promotes physical activity and health. According to studies, playgrounds with natural elements and diverse greenery can  improve children’s immune systems in a month . Children with stronger immune systems can fight off infections and bacteria more easily. While it may seem counter-intuitive that an outdoor playground can help children avoid getting sick, exposure to various germs in the outdoors teaches their immune systems how to fight off sickness more quickly.

Encourages Outdoor Learning and Play

The outdoors is host to enormous opportunities for children to play and grow. Many different school curricula incorporate the outdoors in their lesson plans. This is especially common for science classes. The  benefits of outdoor play  are many, including  building a connection to the environment  and stimulating the senses in a brand-new way.

Using the playground during class can help reinforce science lessons, such as studying the different animals and plants native to the area. Teachers can set up a scavenger hunt outside to find various species of plants or encourage students to create their own “habitats” in a glass jar.

If there’s space, the playground can also host a small outdoor garden where children can learn about growing food and the benefits of a healthy diet. Furthermore, subjects like math, art and even music can host lessons in the playground to provide a refreshing and stimulating environment for learning. Outdoor play can also help children discover their place in the natural world and form a foundation for critical academic concepts such as biology, geology and physics.

• Better sleep:  Children’s activities on screens, such as playing games and watching shows, stimulate the brain. While some games or shows may have educational content, this kind of brain stimulation can impact sleep. Getting children outdoors and reducing this screen time can result in better sleep.
• Improved behavior:  Researchers have also found that kids who spend less time on screens show improved behavior outcomes. Having an outlet like physical activity can help kids behave better.
• Healthier habits:  Another study found that children who spend less time on screens tended to have a lower unhealthy weight gain.
• Better interaction:  Kids can interact with others face-to-face on the playground and experience real-life scenarios that electronics can’t give them.

Builds Self-Esteem and Confidence

One of the most positive school playground benefits is that it can build self-esteem and confidence. Many elements of a playground challenge children, both physically and mentally. While it’s important to have  age-appropriate playground equipment  so it’s as safe as possible, incorporating challenging elements is also essential. When kids can overcome these challenges, it builds their confidence and self-esteem.

Activities like climbing up a wall or hanging from a swinging bar can be challenging for kids, but they can also help to build their tolerance for trying new things they may find scary. It can also build relationships with others through taking risks together. Trying new things on the playground can make them more willing to learn and persist in their schoolwork, even when it’s challenging.

In addition to making school more fun, playgrounds can benefit kids in the classroom. You can use playgrounds to help improve students’ performance and behavior. The CDC supports the correlation between play and school and focuses on demonstrating how  recess benefits students  in the following ways:

Improves Memory and Concentration

The increased blood flow during  physical activity helps send more oxygen  to the brain. With increased blood flow and oxygen in the brain, the memory and learning areas of the brain can grow more and see a boost in nerve connectivity, leading to increased memory retention and improved attention span. Recess and concentration in the classroom directly connect, which means a recess break can help kids absorb the information they’re learning more effectively.

Helps Kids Stay on Task

Kids naturally have shorter attention spans than adults, so getting distracted from a task is easy. A good rule of thumb is that kids can focus on a task for  about two to five minutes  every year they are old. For example, a 10-year-old might be able to concentrate on something for 20-50 minutes. Playground time can give children’s brains a break and help them stay on task. Playgrounds allow kids to lean into their body’s natural energy levels to stay on task in the classroom and let loose outside.

Reduces Disruptive Behavior

Sitting in class for long periods allows energy to build up inside students, increasing the likelihood that kids will act out during a class. Disruptive behavior can affect the educational experience for everyone in the classroom, including the teacher. Playgrounds allow kids to burn off their energy in the middle of the day rather than letting it continue to build up. Releasing this pent-up energy  reduces disruptions and distractions  in the classroom so everyone can focus.

Increases Academic Performance

Another benefit of outdoor play for children includes increasing academic performance. Playgrounds have challenging elements that build skill and confidence, which can then translate to school performance. When kids are familiar with trying new things and challenging themselves, they become more willing to exert themselves in school.

Adventures on a playground can build children’s tolerance for difficulty and failure while promoting endurance and persistence in facing challenges. These skills are invaluable when learning new concepts in school. Studies show outdoor playground play can help build cognitive skills, especially in STEM subjects.

School Playgrounds 101: The Essential Elements of Play and Learning

This is part of a series of posts on the importance of school playgrounds and putting research into action when designing a play space for students. School Playgrounds Support Academic Performance

Why are school playgrounds important? This is a common question we receive. The answer, in part, comes from a recent report by SHAPE America . Active kids learn better, and physical education programs also teach them lifelong health skills.

According to the report, “Active and fit children consistently outperform less active, unfit students academically in both the short and long term.” Despite these findings, only Oregon and D.C. meet the national recommendations of weekly physical education. 

Four schools in Fort Worth, Texas, have tested different recess policies , allowing students breaks four times a day, with amazing results – students were more focused, more creative, and more likely to solve problems on their own rather than immediately running to a teacher.

Free printable playing at the playground social scripts for kids.

Interacting with other kids at the playground is difficult for my son J. He prefers to play by himself or solely just with his brother K. And when he does try to initiate conversations with other kids on the playground it gets a bit awkward sometimes. He sometimes says things that don't make sense based on the social context or the question. Awkward social skills like J's are a common sign of hyperlexia .

So to help him with his playground skills, including at recess time during school, I put together this free printable mini speech and social scripts about things to say while playing at the playground .

About This Social Story Scripts Mini Flip Book

This social skills scripts mini flip book gives appropriate prompts for kids with autism or hyperlexia to say when interacting with other kids on the playground. It's small in size, so it can fit in the palm of your hand or be tossed in a bag for on the go. Or you could even clip it to your child's belt loops so that it is handy at all times.

Kids with hyperlexia  and autism often have trouble initiating play with other kids at the playground or even at school or during recess. Scripts, like these, can help them learn what to say and what not to say. That's why I have created these mini social scripts flip books! They're like text only mini social stories to take on the go!

The scripts are just there to help your kid choose an appropriate question or response to say when playing with other kids on the playground. Use these scripts ahead of time to practice and role play so that they will learn to express themselves when the time is right. With time, you can hopefully phase the scripts out.

To assemble this mini flip book, simply download, print, and cut along the black lines. Blank cards have been included so that you can write your own speech scripts. You might also want to  laminate the cards  for durability. Then hole punch the cards and put the book together using a  a binder ring .

Julia and her two sisters were at the playground with their cousin who had come to visit. It was the year-end school holiday and the children were very bored.

The playground was quite crowded as many children were there to play. The four children went to play on the slide before going to the swing section. Julia’s sisters, June and Jane asked their cousin to have a competition to see who can swing the highest. Their cousin agreed. Being a more adventurous girl, their cousin stood on the swing and began to swing vigorously.

June and Jane laughed loudly and they too began to swing as high as they could. Julia who was supposed to be judging became worried when she saw that her cousin was swinging very high.

“Kelly, be careful! You should be seated!” Julia shouted but her cousin did not listen. The next moment, her cousin lost her balance and grip and fell off the swing. The three girls screamed when they saw their cousin falling and landing on the ground.

Kelly cried out in pain. Fortunately, the playground was made of some softer material so Kelly did not sustain any serious injuries. Feeling insecure, Julia told Kelly that she would have to send her to the clinic so that the doctor can examine her and give her a thorough check.

At the clinic, the doctor checked Kelly’s arms and legs and found no signs of fracture. He told Kelly to be careful the next time. Kelly nodded her head and kept quiet. She was still a little shaken.

The four of them then headed home. Back at home, Kelly apologized for giving them a scare.

My School Speech for School Students

Every school is special in its own way and the same is with my school as well. It is a place where people from different backgrounds and temperaments come together with the purpose to learn. It offers magic in the form of experiments in laboratories, sports in the field, creativity in the art room and more. Schools are a place where we get to make friends, learn new things and grow every day. In fact, it is so hard to imagine a world without schools. They are the first place where we learn about life and many other things. Similarly, my school plays the same role in my life.

My School’s Uniqueness

I study in a convent school which has centuries-old buildings. It has two buildings which divide into the senior category and junior category. The red walls of my school are the trademark of our uniqueness. They are renowned all over the city and have been so for many years.

Every school carries some uniqueness in some way and so does my school. It is the only school in the whole city to cover the largest area. Moreover, my school produces the highest number of toppers in the board exams.

Other than that, the big playground of my school has the most modern swings which the kids absolutely love. In addition, the science lab of my school has all the gear and equipment one requires to successfully carry out experiments.

Another accomplishment of school is that it has got the largest library in the whole town. It consists of every book you can ever think of in many languages and genres. Most importantly, my school’s staff is very loving and inspirational. They love and care for us like their own children.

My Second Home

It would be only fit to call my school my second home. After all, it is the place where I spend most of my time after my home. Not only that, the atmosphere in my school is so comfortable that it makes me feel at home.

I have always loved attending school and never miss out on an opportunity to do so. Further, it is my second home also because I have my friends here who are nothing less than family to me. Thus, they make my school life easier and full of joy. It is truly a blessing to have them in my life.

Most importantly, my school is my second home because it teaches me a lot of things each day. It is a safe space that allows me to grow every day and reach greater heights. As you all know, we have our parents and older siblings at home who protect us at all times.

Similarly, at my second home which is my school, I have my teachers and seniors. They make sure I reach my full potential and encourage me to do the right thing always.

Therefore, I will forever be grateful to my school for being a pillar of strength in my life. Everything that I learn here stays in my mind and heart forever. One day I will have to bid farewell to these beautiful red walls and inspiring teachers, but it won’t change anything. It is so because my school is a part of who I am and it’ll always remain the same for my entire life.

Besides academics, there is a wide range of skills learned at school which includes good behaviour, communication skills, responsibility, time management, and sports skills. 

Schools are the first place where we learn new things. It is the place where new friends are made and those friendships sometimes are carried on throughout life. Schools are considered as heaven on earth and it is very hard to imagine the world without schools. 

Schools are the first place where we learn about various new things which help in our growth. Schools help us to learn how to balance life properly. Similarly, my school played an important role in my life. The man I am today is all because of what I learned during my school days. 

I studied in an all-boys school which was established in 1979. It has a very old building which looks like a huge mansion. It is the oldest school in my town. It has a history of producing toppers to the country. It has a  building which stands tall and has a renowned name across the city and  I am sure it will be for many years to come. 

For the past 30 years, my school has a track record of producing the highest number of toppers in the board exams, and that’s the reason many students want to get into it. 

The unique quality of my school is that it not only focuses on only academics but also gives a lot of importance to sports. 

When it comes to sports my school has the biggest playgrounds in the city for various sports like badminton, cricket, volleyball, throwball and many more. Because of this reason every year, an inter-level sports competition is held in my school’s playground. Fortunately, I was also part of the badminton team that won 2nd place at the all-school badminton championship. The various competitions held at my school help me realize the importance of fitness in my life and I want to thank my school for that.

In addition to the sports competition, various science competitions were also held annually in my school. Different science projects were presented and the best one was awarded a cash price and a trophy. During these competitions, students’ presentation and public speaking skills were tested. Despite being shy I participated in the competition but lost it as I was not very good at presenting my science project. During that time my teachers helped me and pointed out the mistakes which I made. It helped me a lot in the future as I worked on those mistakes and now I am not afraid. I thank my teachers for that. 

To conclude this speech, all I want to say is that I loved attending my school. It was my second home. A home where my friends were like my family members who cared for and loved each other. A visit to the playground is more than fun. It lets kids exercise their bodies, brains, and social skills. It also gives them a chance for unstructured, free play that's important for healthy development. Just check that the play equipment is safe and then watch the fun happen.

Sizing up playground equipment

Choose a playground with equipment that is geared toward your child's age, matched with their abilities, developmental level and size. For example, smaller swings intended for younger children can break if larger children use them. And smaller children using equipment designed for older children can have difficulty reaching and climbing.

Playground surfaces: what's underneath?

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children for playground-related injuries each year. Most playground injuries happen when a child falls from the equipment onto the ground. That's why the best way to prevent injuries is to make sure the surface underneath it can help absorb and soften the impact when children land on it.

Steer clear of hard surfaces like concrete or asphalt. Although grass may look soft, it is not a shock absorbing surface. The CPSC recommends a thick layer of one of the following materials, extending at least 6 feet in all directions, underneath play equipment:

Wood chips, mulch, sand, or pea gravel (12 or more inches deep)

Mats made of safety-tested rubber or rubber-like material

Climbing structures

Kids love to climb. It helps build strength, coordination, and depth perception while letting them see their surroundings on a different level.

To prevent falls or getting caught on climbing equipment:

Platforms higher than 30 inches above the ground intended for school-aged children should have guardrails or barriers to prevent falls.

Vertical and horizontal spaces , like those between the ropes of cargo nets , should be less than 3½ inches wide or more than 9 inches wide. This is to keep a small child's head from getting trapped while preventing them from falling through easily.

Stairs, steps and rungs , the horizontal supports used to climb a ladder, should be evenly spaced. Round rungs to be gripped by young hands should be about 1 to 1½ inches in diameter.

Check for sharp points or edges. For wooden structures, check for nails or screws sticking out. Metal structures should not have rust or peeling paint, which could contain lead .

Don't let your child wear or play with anything that could get caught on equipment and become a strangulation hazard. Avoid sweatshirts with drawstrings or necklaces, for example, and keep jump ropes and pet leashes away from equipment. If your child rides a bike or scooter to the playground, he should take off his helmet while playing.

Straight, wavy or twisty, slides give kids a gentle, confidence-building thrill.

Keep in mind:

Metal slides can get very hot from the sun and seriously burn a child's hands and legs. Plastic slides can get very hot, too. (Asphalt and other dark pavement can also cause serious burns if a child falls.) On hot, sunny days, look for playgrounds where slides and other surfaces are shaded.

Slides should have a platform with rails at the top for children to hold. There should be a guardrail, hood, or other structure at the top so that the child must sit before going down the slide. Open slides should have sides at least 4 inches high.

Make sure there are no rocks, glass, sticks, toys, debris or other children at the base of a slide. These could get in the way of a child landing safely. The cleared area in front of the slide should extend a distance equal to the height of the slide platform.

Teach your child to go down the slide feet first to avoid head injuries , and to make sure anyone in front of them is all the way down before they go.

Don't go down the slide with children on your lap. While it might seem safe if you are holding them, research shows children's legs often get caught and injured on the way down.

Swinging is shown to calm kids, build sensory skills, and even help them better cooperate with other children.

To avoid injuries:

Make sure the cleared distance in front of and behind a swing , and the shock-absorbing surface beneath it, is twice the height of the suspending bar.

Walls, fences or other objects should be at least 6 feet away from either side of a swing.

Swing seats should be made of soft materials such as rubber, plastic, or canvas.

Make sure open or "S" hooks on swing chains are closed to form a figure 8.

Swing sets should be securely and deeply anchored to prevent tipping.

Swings should not be too close together. There should be at least 24 inches between swings and no more than 2 seat swings (or 1 tire swing) in the same section of the structure.

Discourage kids from swinging on their tummies or jumping off. Teach them not to run in front of swings while other children are using them.

Even on safe, age-appropriate playgrounds, adult guidance and supervision is the best way to prevent injuries. In fact, researchers say lack of supervision is linked with nearly half of playground-related injuries. So, as your child climbs, slides, swings and glides, keep an eye on the action and be ready to intervene if they are using the equipment inappropriately!

One of the most touching feature of my school is that the best teachers. They not only teach students but keep students active and agile in both curricular and non-curricular activities that benefits a lot. What makes my school different from rest of the schools is the science laboratories where we learn to discover new experiments in the filed of science.

There are plants in school that provide us fresh air, gardens and greenery to keep our school pollution-free. The atmosphere of our school is very delightful and pleasant. Large grounds for sports are the characteristics of our school.

We are all a family at our school.  Here we all celebrate national events together with great zeal and zest. We make speech and debate competitions, quiz competitions. Apart from that we also participate in curricular and extracurricular activities of the school.

In our sports period, we play different games like cricket, hockey, football, badminton, etc. In fact, our school pays more emphasis on sports of the children for their fitness and good health. Good Morning to everyone present over here. Respected teachers & my dear friends. Today I stand here to talk about My School. As we all know, school is a sacred place of knowledge. It is the fundamental stepping stone for future in everyone’s life. So let me tell you about my school of which I am very proud of. My name is ………….I study in class 3 of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ranchi. I love my school a lot; it is like my family.

My school is situated in the centre of the city with a beautiful grand building. It is a four-storey building with beautiful paintings carved in its wall. Our school provides a co-education. We have classes starting from pre-primary to class twelve in my school. Each class is divided into three sections & with a capacity of 40 students in each section.

There are 70 teachers in our school, including Principal & Vice-Principal. It also has 20 non-teaching staffs for the maintenance purpose. Our school starts at 7.30 in Morning & ends at 2.10 in the afternoon with a 30 minutes lunch break. There is a considerable Assembly Ground in front of the school where everyday Morning we start our day with prayer & meaning full thoughts.

My school has a spacious library with a sitting capacity of 120 students at a time. It has a collection of a variety of books starting from our regular academic books to story & comic books. I love spending time in the library as it is the calmest place & one can easily concentrate.

Our school is supported by six computer labs, in which we do our practical computer classes. There are two spacious halls for seminars, debates & competitions. The big playground on the backside of the school is used for different types of physical activities like games, parades etc. I often play cricket, football, kabaddi, Kho-Kho with my friends in the playground.

There is a basketball court & badminton court too in my school. Besides that, my school has a music room, art room & sports room too for different activities. There is a canteen where snacks items are available & we have our lunch in the canteen during our lunch break. Teachers of my school are very talented, friendly, kind & loving.

They keep encouraging us for different types of extracurricular activities besides the regular academic course. (Gray News) - A high school valedictorian in Texas delivered an unforgettable graduation speech hours after burying his dad.

At the beginning of the speech, 18-year-old Alem Hadzic, now a graduate from Early College High School, said his family received devastating news in early spring that his late father, Miralem Hadzic, was diagnosed with cancer.

However, he said he never shared it with many people because he didn’t want to be treated differently during his last few months of high school.

“My father died yesterday, May 15, 2024, and I attended his funeral today, right before graduation,” Hadzic said.

He continued, “That’s why my shoes are muddy and my arms are shaking because I had to carry him into his grave and bury him.”

Hadzic told KDFW that he was able to deal with his mix of emotions by going off-script during his speech.

Emotionally, Hazdic said that even though he didn’t feel like giving the speech, he didn’t want to throw something away that his dad worked so hard for.

“And that’s why I’m going to go to college and spend every hour of every day working as hard as I can to achieve all my goals because that’s what he wanted and I’m going to do it for him,” he said.

He asked everyone to look at their loved ones and say they would do the same for them.

At the end of the speech, he received a standing ovation.

Hadzic will study chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, according to PEOPLE.
