#ProudViscan lands 4th in recent geodetic engineering board; VSU is 2nd top performing school in GE

A Viscan did it again!

Engr. Jeith Pons S. Tutor places fourth and led 13 other new #ProudViscan engineers in the December 2021 geodetic engineering licensure examination (GELE) administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

The young lad from Bontoc, Southern Leyte was also among the 375 passers in the entire country and obtained an individual rating of 90.20%. He graduated Cum Laude at VSU Main Campus in September 2020.

Before passing the boards, Engr. Tutor worked for a short time in Bohol. But to prepare for the upcoming licensure exam, he temporarily stopped working to focus on his review.

Engr. Tutor’s hometown was heavily devastated by Typhoon Odette and he said that receiving this good news was a relief and morale boost for him and his family after enduring a natural disaster.

“I offer my achievement to the Lord, my family and the entire people of Southern Leyte who experienced a lot of difficulties these days because of Typhoon Odette. I hope that I inspire many people with this humble recognition that we can indeed stand up and recover even in the toughest of times,” the topnotcher shared.

But on top of acing the board exam, the Visayas State University is also the second top performing school in the December 2021 licensure examination for geodetic engineers.

VSU garnered an institutional passing rate of 92.8%, placing 2nd among top universities in the country, with a national passing percentage of 54%. University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) took the top spot with 97.53%.

Dr. Jannet C. Bencure, College of Engineering and Technology (CET) Dean, extended her congratulations to the new set of engineers that have risen beyond the challenges of the pandemic even with the added challenges brought by Typhoon Odette.

“The pandemic may have disrupted your time and Typhoon Odette may have damaged your home, but never your dreams of becoming a full-fledged geodetic engineer. This accomplishment demonstrates that VSU has prepared you in many ways–to treat problems as challenges, see opportunities in every problem, and thrive in the face of adversity. Thank you for making us proud!,” the CET Dean expressed.

Dean Bencure also gave her appreciation to the mentors and faculty members of DGE for consistently producing outstanding graduates that has placed VSU’s track record among the country’s best.

“This is the 13th batch of BSGE graduates taking the Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination (GELE) since 2008. For the last 12 batches, VSU has continuously been among the top-performing schools in GELE performance,” she revealed.

VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin expressed his congratulations to Engr. Tutor, the 12 other new VSU geodetic engineers and the faculty and staff of DGE.

“My sincere congratulations to Engr.Tutor including the other passers from VSU and most especially to the Department of Geodetic Engineering for proving once again that our program here in our university is one of the country’s best. Placing 2nd top performing school in this board examination is another feather in our cap that we hope to maintain in the many years to come. My administration will continue to provide support to further strengthen our geodetic engineering program here in VSU,” Dr. Tulin expressed.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) along with the Board of Geodetic Engineering conducted the examination in Manila, Baguio, Davao, Legazpi, Pagadian, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga from December 22-23, 2021.

Examination in Cebu, on the other hand, was postponed and has been rescheduled to March 10-11 because of Typhoon Odette.

UP Diliman grads take top 3 places in Geodetic Engineer Licensure exams

University of the Philippines Diliman graduates take the top three spots in the December 2021 Geodetic Engineer Licensure Examinations, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced.

Christian Janlois Arguelles Noriega was named topnotcher, gaining a percentage rating of 91.8%.

In second place is Gian Nathan Acurantes Tongco (91%), followed by Jay Vee Perdonio Estrada (90.60%).

Pampanga State Agricultural University (P.A.C.) graduate, Bernard Maico Cunanan Tayag, also made it to third place.

They are among the 375 out of 694 examinees who successfully hurdled the licensure exams.

The top five performing schools are:

• University of the Philippines Diliman
• Visayas State University
• Saint Louis University
• Caraga State University (Butuan City)
• University of Southeastern Philippines (Davao City)

ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: October 2024 Geodetic Engineer Licensure Exam (GELE)

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) releases the room assignments for the October 2024 Geodetic Engineer Licensure Exam (GELE)  a few days before the examination.

This year’s Geodetic Engineer Licensure Exam (GELE) will be conducted on October 17-18, 2024.

Room Assignments

Below are the Room Assignments for the October 2024 GELE:

• Butuan – Advisory
• Legazpi – PWD
• Rosales, Pangasinan

Examinees shall report before 6:30 in the morning on the said date because latecomers will not be admitted.

Things to Bring Examination day

Here are the things to bring during the examination proper:

• Notice of Admission
• Official Receipt
• One (1) piece of metered-stamped window mailing envelope
• Two (2) or more pencils (NO. 2)
• Ball pens (black ink only)
• One (1) piece long brown envelope
• One (1) piece long transparent/plastic envelope (for keeping your valuables and other allowed items)

Dress Code on Examination Day

Here are the specified dress codes from PRC:

• For male examinees, tucked-in white polo shirt with collar (without any seal, logo, or mark); decent pants or slacks
• For female examinees, tucked-in white blouse or shirt with collar (without any seal, logo, or mark); decent pants or slacks

Prohibited Items Inside the Exam Rooms:

• Books, notes, review materials, and other printed materials containing coded information or formulas
• Calculators which are programmable or with embedded functions, especially CASIO FX991ES and CASIO FX-991ES plus
• Apple, Samsung and other smart watches, cellular phones, ear plugs, transmitters, portable computers, Bluetooth and other electronic devices which may be used for communication purposes;
• Bags of any kind (place your documents inside the transparent/plastic envelope)
• Other examination aides not stated in this program

All personal belongings of the examinees shall be surrendered to the proctor and shall be placed in a secured space within the examination room.

The rules on the conduct of bodily search, an inspection of personal belongings of the examinees, and the seizure/confiscation of prohibited items during the licensure exam (Annex A of PRC Memorandum Order No. 57, s. 2020) shall be strictly observed.

Exam Coverage

The October 2024 Geodetic Engineer Licensure Exam (GELE)  will cover the following topics:

• Laws, Rules and Regulations (Public land laws and natural resources, laws on property, land reform laws, land registration laws on obligation and contracts, professional and ethical practice and rules and regulations government land surveying)
• Mathematics (including algebra, solid geometry, analytical geometry engineering economics, plane and spherical trigonometry, differential and integral calculus, mechanics and least squares)
• Theory and Practice of Surveying (including property surveying, isolated, mineral and mining surveys, cadastral land surveying, astronomy, route surveys and earthworks, hydrographic and topographic surveying, photogrammetry, engineering surveys and construction surveying)
• Geodesy (including geodetic surveying, geodetic astronomy, geodetic triangulation, geodetic leveling, gravity measurement and least squares)
• Cartography (including plotting and mapping of isolated, mineral, cadastral, hydrographic photogrammetric surveys and map projection).
