Homework Helpers Tutoring: More than a Traditional Learning Center
Article by Josh Goodkin
Originally published in Bridgewater City Lifestyle
Let me introduce myself, I’m Josh Goodkin, founder of Homework Helpers – a tutoring and test preparation center in New Jersey that offers personalized education solutions for students of all ages. At just 24 years old, I left the corporate world to open my tutoring center in my hometown of Long Valley, NJ. In just 10 years, we have quickly expanded the business’s footprint globally, and now have 40 tutors on staff who work with more than 250 students, mostly in Morris, Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset and Sussex counties. Most recently, with the transition to virtual sessions, we now have clients in India, Morocco, Canada and nine states!
I’m very proud of our resilience and the quickness we turned an in-person tutoring company into an international tutoring company serving students with the same quality and attention we were known for pre-COVID-19. Our entire staff deserves the credit as they quickly learned how to effectively tutor virtually. I’m also so proud of the community I grew up in and the community we are located in.
My story dates back to my childhood in a few key ways. As a kid, my sisters and I grew up working with tutors for help with our homework, and for me personally – math. These educators were so pivotal in my life, so much so that they were considered part of the family. They came over a few times a week to help us learn and grow, and even stayed for dinner. Funny enough, at my Bat Mitzvah, there was a whole table reserved just for tutors! In being exposed to tutors at a young age, I quickly recognized how tutoring could be such an instrumental tool in helping kids not only get by in school, but flourish.
As I got older, I worked summers as a camp counselor and babysitter. In doing so, I recognized how much I loved helping kids, and decided to go to college to become a pediatrician. Unfortunately, despite the tutoring I had received myself, math was still not my strong suit! So, I chose to take a step back and re-evaluate, and in doing so, I realized that there was another way I could work with kids and help them reach their fullest potential, and that was by creating a company that mirrored my own tutoring experiences growing up.
Homework Helpers was born in 2011, on the premise that tutoring is not a one-size-fits-all industry. Every student has a unique set of needs and learns differently – and our services help them reach their goals in more personalized ways, regardless of grade, subject or ability.
Our goal is to give teachers a place to share their passion for teaching and helping students achieve success. We are a business that welcomes all students, and we serve each with kindness, respect and the idea that every student is unique and therefore requires an approach customized to them. At Homework Helpers, we strive to boost grades while providing students with the confidence to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
We are a local business to our roots, with many tutors’ alumni of the local schools or living in Long Valley and its surrounding towns. In fact, many on our staff often have had the same teachers as some of the students they currently work with. In addition, we sponsor and support our local sports leagues, boy/girl scouts, local school theaters, churches, dance/cheerleading squads and more. We love our community and want to support them as much as they have supported us.
Unlike other tutoring centers, the sessions offered at Homework Helpers are 100% customizable. This means that parents can build their own packages, and our tutors create personalized sessions for each student based on their learning needs – from ABCs to SATs. We’re constantly creating, collaborating and discussing new ways that we can keep students motivated and learning to the best of their abilities. Examples include a prizing system where students in grades K-8 can earn tickets for working hard, and these can eventually be turned in for prizes of different values – ranging from small stuffed animals to larger toys and gift cards. Students in our SAT and ACT programs can also enter our quarterly contests, where winners of certain categories can walk away with TVs, laptops and more great things.
We believe that we’re not just a facility to feed the mind, but also the stomach. Students often come to us after school where they haven’t eaten anything since lunchtime, so we offer daily pizza for everyone and bagels on weekends, a full snack bar stocked with all the foods that kids love – and so much more.
Overall, we don’t want kids to view tutoring as painful or something they dread doing. We’re here to help them in whichever way they need, and that means offering them a comfortable experience where they’ll feel encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
Currently, our focus is on preventing the “COVID Slide.” Every summer, we see people comment on the “Summer Slide” – an 8-week period of time where it’s been shown that many students lose some of the learnings they’ve gained over the school year. Now, COVID-19 has added a new element of concern for many
Families and educators worry how the absence of traditional school settings and summer learning programs will impact students in the fall and the long term. We’re working on creating programs to help kids “brush off the rust,” regain better study habits, refresh skills that may have fallen off during this time, and to give them the confidence and skills they need to be successful in the fall – whether it be virtually, or in-person.
Sample programs include a Math Transition class for kids who are graduating 8th grade and entering high school, helping them understand how to handle the rigors of a new school and different levels of expectations. We’re also offering a new Debate Club to help students stay ahead of current events and learn how to formulate opinions based on research, and even a Home Economics session to teach kids everything from how to write a check to how to do laundry – things that may not be taught in school, but are pivotal for them in terms of life skills. All of these programs are accessible to kids online, and our hope is to bring them back in-person in smaller group settings during the month of July as New Jersey continues to re-open. In addition, We are focused on creating lawn signs for everyone local senior to display their name and the college they are committed to attending. We want to give all seniors the proper recognition they deserve and might not be getting during these abnormal times.
The hit of COVID-19 has certainly been the most interesting time for us as a company, as I’m sure many business owners can relate. When the pandemic first hit New Jersey, students were in the midst of wrapping up their school years, which meant preparing for finals, studying for the SATs and ACTs, and for many high schoolers, determining their college plans. COVID-19 put much of this on hold, and truthfully - stopped our business in its tracks. We were forced to close our doors, and sit down to re-evaluate how we could keep students motivated and learning from the comforts of their homes. From there, we created our first-ever virtual tutoring model – which allowed tutors to continue working with students via video conferencing.
Beyond that, we quickly saw that learning at home is not easy for many kids – and especially can be tough for their parents, who are worried about keeping them engaged. With that in mind, we launched Homework Helpers Happenings – a series of free education workshops each week that help kids get ahead, and stay ahead in their learning. This includes sessions like COVID & College, a weekly Q&A session with a professional college advisor who teaches the ins and outs of college applications, and even daily Story Time for younger kids – where our tutors dress up in fun costumes and read popular children’s books aloud. The best part is that just like our virtual tutoring options, these workshops are accessible to students worldwide – so no matter where you live or what you’re learning, there’s a great session available for you that you can easily tune into.
If there is a silver lining in all of this or a lesson to be learned, it’s that when things are going well it’s hard to step back and recognize areas for growth or improvement. COVID-19, while uncertain and unsettling, gave us a much-needed wake-up call. I was forced to take a moment to become more retrospective and re-evaluate the ways and means that I can further grow my business and expand my services with the goal of helping as many students as possible. I’ve realized that it’s important to think of obstacles as opportunities to get creative. For us, this allowed our company to become even stronger, impact more and ultimately, become even more successful than we were before.

Myhomeworkhelp.com- the Ultimate New Jersey Homework Help Service
New Jersey is one of the most forward states in the United States of America when it comes to Education. It has been ranked second in Education this year. However, what you have to notice is that Massachusetts has ranked first with an A grade while numerous other states have ranks after it with B grades of which New Jersey has topped. New Jersey might be number 2 but it is at par with numerous other states which, like it, has scored a B grade.
New Jersey might be forward in Education but it has not yet reached the point where students are free from the struggles of lack of understanding. Homework help in New Jersey is not very easy to find for the very reason that they’re expected to know everything. Students, being novices, are bound to have troubles in learning and it is the teacher’s job to help them with it. However, the New Jersey homework help service is far from being good because most of them work on their own terms.
Cons of the New Jersey Education system
New Jersey Education has been ranked second and not first, for a reason. Some of the drawbacks that characterize the education of New Jersey are as follows:
- Assignment help in New Jersey is not just difficult to find but also reluctantly provided by the teachers to the students. This is because they tend to believe in self learning and promote the same.
- Students are encouraged to have doubts but very little is done to help them get to the process of clarification.
With the main drawbacks of the New Jersey Education being so disheartening, it is no surprise that Homework help in New Jersey is mostly avoided by students.
How myhomeworkhelp.com rescued the students
Here’s a tale of how myhomeworkhelp.com, with its superior features, rescued the students from the strangles of ignorance. Studies prove that scholars prefer to gather knowledge online due to accessibility from any location and freedom of choosing time slots. We ensure our services are top-notch, but you may face issues at times. In such circumstances, you can file a complaint here , and we promise you money-back under our cancellation and refund policy .
Students have been flocking to us ever since we started our online help services. This is primarily because they truly needed our guidance and also because we’re very professional and believe in serving students means serving our future!

- We further make sure that every problem of the student is paid special heed to and clarified with utmost thoroughness.
- Our team believes in making learning the motto of studying. This is because when you study to learn, you score insanely better than when you study to score marks!
- Assignment help in New Jersey which is so difficult to find is also provided by us. In fact we not only provide you with the necessary help but also teach you in detail and make provisions for readymade assignments when required.
With us being such student lovers, it is no surprise that students find us easy to trust and seek help from. If you are facing problems in any subject, coming to us for help will help you more than any extra classes!

Woman caught on video 'enticing' 500-pound tiger after illegally climbing into NJ zoo enclosure
BRIDGETON, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Police in New Jersey are asking for the public's help identifying a woman after she was caught on video illegally climbing into a tiger enclosure at a zoo.
It happened Sunday at the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton.
Authorities say the female zoogoer went over the wooden fence that holds two 500-pound Bengal tigers. Police say the woman began "enticing the tiger," putting her hand through the wire enclosure.
In the video posted by police , you can see she nearly got bitten by the big cat.
"That back-and-forth behavior that he did is like a pacing thing. You can also see his tail is going and that's an agitated behavior," said animal keeper Avery Menear, describing the behavior of 7-year-old Mahesha.
"As soon as she turned around, on the video you can see his paw go up, and after she reached out towards him, those are all predatory behaviors he was displaying," Menear added.
Frequent visitors of Bridgeton's hidden gem of a zoo became visibly upset upon watching the video.
"I don't know what people think," said Sharon Simpkins, of Salem County, NJ. "They're here for our display and people should not try and do something like that it's crazy."
"It's mind-boggling to me how someone could make such a selfish choice," said Sherri Riddle, of Bridgeton, NJ.
Police say not only was this inappropriate and dangerous, but it's also illegal to climb over the zoo fences.
According to police, the woman does violate a city ordinance -- something that's clearly marked on the signs outside of the enclosure.
However, at this point, police say that would be the extent of punishment she faces.
Anyone with information about the woman seen in the video is asked to call Bridgeton police at 856-451-0033. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at BPD.TIPS.

Map shows where RFK Jr. is on the ballot in the 2024 election
By Caitlin Yilek , Allison Novelo
Updated on: August 23, 2024 / 3:25 PM EDT / CBS News
Washington — Unlike the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faced a costly and time-consuming process to appear on general election ballots as an independent candidate before he suspended his campaign .
Rules vary from state to state , but independent candidates typically have to collect thousands of signatures or be supported by a minor party in order to apply for ballot access.
Kennedy opted to run as an independent last October, abandoning his Democratic primary bid. Democrats and Republicans questioned whether the independent candidate would pull support from their voters.
Seeing no path to victory himself, Kennedy endorsed former President Donald Trump in a speech in Phoenix on Friday. But he said his name would remain on the ballot in non-battleground states and encouraged voters there to still vote for him.
In battleground states, "where my presence would be a spoiler, I'm going to remove my name, and I've already started that process and urge voters not to vote for me," he said. He added that campaign's polling consistently showed that he would "likely hand the election over to the Democrats" if he was on the ballot in battleground states.
"He's a well-known name," said Dan Mallinson, an associate professor at Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg. "He's different than a lot of other third-party candidates that run."
Kennedy is currently on the ballot in three tightly contested states — Michigan, Nevada and North Carolina. Recent CBS News estimates show Harris and Trump are statistically tied in Michigan and North Carolina, with Kennedy having 2% support. Michigan said it's too late for Kennedy to pull his name from the November ballot. The deadline to withdraw his name in Nevada has also passed, though a judge could issue a court order to remove him. In a court filing on Friday, Kennedy asked a court in Pennsylvania to remove his name from the ballot there.
"Some of these states are such tight margins that it can matter," Mallinson said before Kennedy made his announcement.
Democrats saw a bump after swapping their nominee from President Biden to Harris, largely coming from voters who had previously expressed support for Kennedy, according to a Pew Research Center poll .
Polling from Marquette Law School found that when independent candidates were included on the ballot question, Trump had a slightly larger drop in support than Harris. In an Emerson College poll , Harris' and Trump's support evenly decreased by two points with third-party candidates on the ballot. Kennedy's support dropped in recent months in both polls.
It's typical of third-party candidates to see their poll numbers drop as it gets closer to Election Day, according to Matthew Foster, a professor at American University.
"When you're polling months beforehand, people's choices are a bit mushy," he said. "They're more willing to support a third-party candidate at that moment. But when the election comes down to the wire and it really becomes time for the decision, they tend to go either Republican or Democrat."
Kennedy's campaign said it secured enough signatures in every state and Washington, D.C., except for Kentucky, Mississippi, Rhode Island and Wyoming.
In the map below, states where Kennedy's campaign says it has met the threshold to appear on the ballot but are still awaiting official confirmation are light blue.
So far, about half of states — those that are dark blue on the map — have confirmed that he will appear on the November ballot.
Kennedy was on the ballot in Arizona, a battleground state, but withdrew his candidacy as he weighed whether to stay in the race . New York is the only state where he failed to qualify after a judge said Kennedy falsely claimed a New York residence on his nominating petitions. Kennedy was appealing the decision.
Even if he ends up on a majority of ballots, "he won't make any impact if it's not the battlegrounds," Foster said.

Bill Pascrell Jr., 14-Term House Democrat From N.J., Dies at 87
An outspoken progressive, he vigorously opposed President Donald J. Trump and focused on legislation to help “regular Americans pay their bills.”
By Sam Roberts and Joseph P. Fried
Representative Bill Pascrell Jr., a blunt progressive Democrat from northern New Jersey who was poised to become the oldest member of the House of Representatives, died on Wednesday in Livingston, N.J. He was 87.
His death, in a hospital, was confirmed by his deputy chief of staff, Mark Greenbaum.
Mr. Pascrell, who was serving his 14th term in Congress, checked himself into a hospital on July 14 with a fever. Ten days later, his staff said he had suffered a setback while being treated for a respiratory infection and was receiving “breathing assistance,” according to The Record of Bergen County, N.J. He had recently discharged himself from the hospital but then found he had to return, Mr. Greenbaum said.
Mr. Pascrell was heavily favored to win re-election. Had that happened — and had he lived to be sworn in in January, just before his 88th birthday — he would have become the oldest member of the House. Representative Grace F. Napolitano, a California Democrat, will turn 88 in December, but she did not seek re-election.
A former high school history teacher and the grandson of Italian immigrants, Mr. Pascrell served as a state legislator and as the mayor of Paterson, N.J., the once-thriving industrial city a dozen or so miles west of Manhattan where he was raised, before being elected to Congress in 1996.
He reclaimed the district, which at the time included 21 cities and suburbs in Passaic and Essex Counties, for the Democrats by narrowly unseating a one-term Republican, Bill Martini, who had been elected as part of the so-called Republican Revolution in 1994. A Democrat had held the seat — then the Eighth District, later remapped as the Ninth — since 1961. The Ninth District now includes parts of Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties.
During his nearly three decades in Congress, Mr. Pascrell focused largely on legislation that dealt with practical problem-solving and, as he put it, “helping regular Americans pay their bills.”
