contribution of technology in education essay class 10

Technology has become an integral part of sustaining society , and its influence on education is inevitable . Earlier, technology’s role in education was limited to teaching methodologies and educating students. The evolution of technology has impacted every aspect of our lives, from banking to how we communicate. Education is inextricably linked to technology, so its integration into technology is inevitable. As a result, it is not surprising that schools have also become a part of this paradigm shift in the world today. Technology has been part of our lives for decades, but it is only recently that the development and application of technology in education have begun to take shape. Technology is one of the most important things we have today, which can assist students in doing better academically. As technology grows, it brings about new ways for students to learn and interact through various mediums.

What is Education?

What is technology, how has technology changed the way of imparting education, importance of technology in education, advantages of technology in education, disadvantages of technology in education.

Education is a process of teaching, learning, and development. Education consists of transmitting values and knowledge from one generation to another. It is also about learning how to communicate effectively, manage people, and solve problems.

Technology is a collection of tools and processes used for accomplishing tasks. It can be anything from a sneaker to a car to an airplane, but it’s all technology when you boil it down to its bare essentials. Technology is the use of science, engineering, and mathematics to develop tools, systems, and methods for human activities.

It is the collection of knowledge that people have created to solve problems or create new things. Technology is not limited to physical objects but includes virtual objects like software, data, and websites.

Technology has changed the way we impart education . It has made it possible for us to reach out to more students, and it has also made it possible for us to deliver the same lessons in a much more efficient manner. We can now t each our lessons online , meaning we don’t have to travel all over the place to teach them. We can also use technology like video conferencing and chat rooms with our students, which means that we don’t have to spend time getting to know them and making sure they understand what we’re teaching them. This has made a massive difference in how teachers interact with their students. Before technology, teachers had to spend hours preparing for lessons, but they didn’t have the option of using technology when they taught them. Nowadays, students get better grades because they are more prepared than ever. Technology has made it possible for us to find information from anywhere in the world and share it with others without having to meet them face-to-face physically. This means that students can take their education wherever they go, from their bedrooms to their classrooms to their offices at work. The internet has made learning possible for everyone, no matter where they live or in their country. With the advent of online learning platforms like Udemy, Coursera, and Khan Academy, students are no longer limited to traditional classrooms. They can learn at their own pace and access any educational content they want.

It has also made it easier for teachers to impart their knowledge and expertise to students . Teachers can now use video lectures as well as text-based lessons.

Teachers also have access to more resources than ever before—both on-site and off-site—to ensure that their students’ needs are met.

Education has always been a stepping stone to success. Education helps us grow and learn new things, but it is not enough. To make sure that you are on the right path for your future, it is essential to have a good education.

Technology has proven beneficial and transformation in educational settings in particular. Technology is reshaping the world of education from online colleges to digital certificate programs and hybrid set-ups. This can help students get their qualifications faster while providing them with more resources needed to succeed.

Technology has also changed how we learn and teach students today. Technology offers us many ways of teaching students online or even in person; there are more options than ever before! There are even digital certificates available online, allowing students to get their qualifications quickly without having to travel all over town whenever they need something new added to their resume. The importance of technology can be understated when it comes to learning because it allows us all access to information from anywhere at any time! This means we do not have barriers to getting what we need when it comes time for school or work. Technology allows us all access. The most important thing to remember when considering technology’s role in education is that it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for human interaction. Instead, Teachers should use it to enhance student learning by providing them with opportunities to use their minds outside of the classroom setting. Students can achieve this through online courses that allow students across the globe to interact with each other and instructors face-to-face or via video conference calls. In addition, virtual reality technology will enable students to learn within an immersive environment, which helps them better retain information when it comes time for them to apply it later on in life.”

Technology helps children to stay motivated during the learning process:

Most students don’t like to go to school if they feel like wasting their time. When technology is allowed in the classroom, teachers can let kids work at a pace that suits them the best without disturbing others.

This way, students can work independently and get the right amount of help from teachers when needed. Students also have an opportunity to do other things like watching movies or playing games while being able to work on their assignments.

Not only does it help with motivation, but it also helps with retention because students can learn more while doing something they enjoy doing instead of sitting in a dull classroom day after day without any distractions from outside sources such as television or

Other activities may be distracting from learning purposes. If students feel like wasting their time, they will lose interest in school. But when technology is allowed in the classroom, teachers can let kids work at a pace that suits them best without disturbing others. Studies show that kids who use electronic devices in class tend to perform better than those who do not use such devices. This is because using electronic devices allows them to focus on what they are doing instead of being distracted by other things around them.

Technology allows better communication between teachers and parents:

There are so many ways that technology in the classroom encourages more communication between teachers and parents.

First, when there is technology in the classroom, there are more opportunities for parents and teachers to connect. This can be done through texting and emailing or using social media. It can also be done by video chatting. For example, if your child has an after-school homework club, you can text them about their progress during class time and ensure they’re completing their work on time.

Second, it helps children stay connected with their parents. If a student doesn’t have access to technology at home, then they may not feel comfortable talking about their day over dinner or on the phone. However, if there is a way for them to speak with their parents through a computer or smartphone app, then they will feel more encouraged to use it!

Third, it helps teachers stay connected with parents too! If there’s an easy way for us as educators to communicate with our students’ families, then we can work on projects and plan lessons together without having face-to-face time. In addition, if online resources are available for students, it will save teachers from having to come up with new ways of teaching every time they want something new taught or learned.

Technology also helps make sure that students feel supported by their teachers and families when they need them most; this can be especially important when dealing with issues related to mental health or sexuality.

Technology gives access to behavioral data on students:

Technology has been used to collect behavioral data on students for years. It’s a great way to get the information you need to help your students succeed, but it can also be a little scary if you’re not sure exactly how much information is being collected.

The various apps, software choices, and technological platforms collect student data that can show attendance patterns, learning issues in specific subjects, and how they react in particular situations. This allows teachers to identify problems early on and work with them before they become too complex to fix. For example, a new app called “My School” uses real-time data to inform teachers of students’ attendance rates during class and their progress towards completing homework assignments. This information allows teachers to give individualized attention to each student based on their needs and wants.

Teachers can use this information to provide individualized instruction and interventions for students who need it most.

Technology will increase cheating:

Cheating in school is nothing new. It has been around since the beginning of time. But now, there’s a new way to cheat: technology. And now you can cheat without even having to go to school. With technology, students can send themselves text messages with answers before taking a test or taking part in a quiz. Then they can email those answers to whomever they want—and that person won’t even have to be at school. This technology has made cheating more accessible and has allowed students to cheat more efficiently than ever before. Students should also know the rules around using technology during quizzes, tests, and general classes. There must be strict rules about how students use technology at school—for example, no phones are allowed during class discussions or lectures.

Technology can be distracting for students:

Kids are a lot like little adults. They are constantly testing the boundaries of what is acceptable, and they aren’t necessarily stopped until they’ve found out where those boundaries are. Parents need to be aware of how technology can affect their kids’ behavior. Children who play video games can find themselves reacting to addiction-like behaviors. Their focus is on the entertainment they receive more than anything else. If the educational environment uses reward-based games to encourage learning, the child might be more concerned with what they receive through the software or app instead of what they are learning. For parents, this means that you should be able to detect when your child is engaging in activities that don’t match. How much energy and focus they should be putting into schoolwork, especially if this involves electronic devices or apps made specifically for children. This isn’t always intentional: we want our children to be happy when they play games! But if you want your child to learn something new while gaming, you must choose educational games over reward-based ones.

Technology is not affordable for everyone:

Whether technology is in the classroom or at home, there is the issue of affordability to worry about in today’s world. Some households cannot afford to purchase computers for their kids to manage school work. School districts don’t have enough money to pay their salaries yearly, much less add new tech components for learning. Other expenses can make technology unaffordable for some families: repairs, software updates, and utilities (such as electricity). When we focus on having technology in the classroom, we place those at the lowest end of the wage scale at a significant disadvantage. With less money, they have less access to lessons and can’t afford to purchase devices. Students with greater access can learn more and access lessons more often.

Technology cannot replace the human touch in imparting education. It, however, plays a paramount role in improving efficiency. Students’ character gets affected when they spend too much time on computers and bright devices. Instead of making them tech-savvy, it makes them less practical and more imaginative. The transition from traditional teaching methods to technology for teaching has a remarkable impact on the student. As a result, their level of awareness increased, and the student picked up things quickly and multiplied their knowledge instantly. But some challenges need to be met regarding the use of technology in education by the students. The challenges are innovation, maintenance, and reliable infrastructure to support the advanced technology used in the learning process.

Role of Technology in Education

The state of the education system has moved to greater heights as compared to that in the past centuries. The 21 st Century has presented to us an education system that is technology driven in which ideas and innovations have outperformed both machine and muscle. That is to say, there is a lot that we can now achieve with technology that we could not even dream about in the past. To address the low level of literacy, economic matters and other workforce needs, technology has helped a great deal ensuring that no child is left behind. This research paper will highlight those areas in education that technological advancement has help boost, more particularly it will zero in on the concept of computing and the internet.

Computer and internet technology has completely brought a new trend in the global education that makes it possible for people to learn from the comfort of their homes, thanks to the online professional development courses. The internet has led to an unprecedented degree of educational content to a wide audience of students and tutors alike. And as they leave colleges into the workforce, students do so with a better understanding of how they can apply technology in their respective jobs in addition to what they covered in the usual curriculum (James L. Morrison, 1998, 2-4).

It is therefore an open secret that technology has enabled tutors as well as students to explore, develop and expand their technical skills through interacting with others in the field all over the globe. Online coordination has broken all the education barriers that used to hinder learning, the students are now enjoying a wide range of ideas and contextual varieties. With he employment of the new technology, teachers have been able to get good tools that that can help them design and deliver lessons that give a reflection of the 21 st Century to motivate students and inspire their creativity. Every step to integrate technology applications in the education system has proved worthwhile in defining a new dimension of education reforms. To be precise, Computing has contributed greatly to peoples enrichment and enhancement, thus transforming their lives for the better. This does not only occur in the education field, but also in the areas of entertainment, business and communication…in a few years time we will be in what can be dubbed “the digital decade” [for luck of a better word]. The advent of technology has dramatically transformed various sectors globally, and education is no exception. Over the years, technology has played a pivotal role in reshaping educational landscapes, creating new opportunities for both students and educators. This essay explores the impact of technology on education, focusing on its benefits, challenges, and future implications.

The Benefits of Technology in Education

One of the most significant benefits of technology in education is the democratization of knowledge. Digital platforms such as online libraries, e-books, and educational websites have made information accessible to anyone with an internet connection, breaking down geographical and socio-economic barriers.

Technology has also fostered a more personalized learning experience. Adaptive learning systems and educational apps can tailor content to individual students’ needs, enhancing their understanding and engagement. Furthermore, technology facilitates collaborative learning through platforms that allow students to work together remotely, fostering teamwork and communication skills.

The Challenges of Technology in Education

Despite the numerous benefits, technology’s integration into education is not without challenges. One of the primary issues is the digital divide, which refers to the disparity in access to technology between different socioeconomic groups. This divide exacerbates educational inequalities, as students who lack access to digital resources are disadvantaged.

Another challenge is the potential for distraction. With the proliferation of digital devices, students may be tempted to use them for non-educational purposes, which can hinder their academic progress. Additionally, the over-reliance on technology may diminish critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as students may resort to quick online solutions rather than engaging in deep, thoughtful analysis.

Future Implications

As we look towards the future, the role of technology in education is set to grow even more prominent. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are expected to revolutionize the classroom experience, making learning more immersive and engaging. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will likely automate administrative tasks, freeing up teachers’ time to focus more on instruction and student interaction.

However, as technology continues to evolve, it is crucial to address its challenges. Policymakers and educators must work together to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that all students can benefit from technological advancements. Additionally, digital literacy programs should be implemented to teach students how to use technology responsibly and effectively.

In conclusion, technology has had a profound impact on education, offering numerous benefits but also presenting significant challenges. As we navigate the digital age, it is essential to harness technology’s potential to enhance education while mitigating its drawbacks. This balanced approach will ensure that technology serves as a powerful tool in shaping a more equitable, engaging, and efficient educational landscape.

Technology has wiped out the manual way of storing files. Now files are stored in the cloud, which can be accessed at any time and from anywhere. With technology, companies can make quick decisions, act faster towards solutions, and remain adaptable. Technology has optimised the usage of resources and connected businesses worldwide. For example, if the customer is based in America, he can have the services delivered from India. They can communicate with each other in an instant. Every company uses business technology like virtual meeting tools, corporate social networks, tablets, and smart customer relationship management applications that accelerate the fast movement of data and information.

Technology in Education:

Technology is making the education industry improve over time. With technology, students and parents have a variety of learning tools at their fingertips. Teachers can coordinate with classrooms across the world and share their ideas and resources online. Students can get immediate access to an abundance of good information on the Internet. Teachers and students can access plenty of resources available on the web and utilise them for their project work, research, etc. Online learning has changed our perception of education.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a paradigm shift using technology where school-going kids continued their studies from home and schools facilitated imparting education by their teachers online from home. Students have learned and used 21st-century skills and tools, like virtual classrooms, AR (Augmented Reality), robots, etc. All these have increased communication and collaboration significantly.

Technology in Banking:

Technology and banking are now inseparable. Technology has boosted digital transformation in how the banking industry works and has vastly improved banking services for their customers across the globe.

Technology has made banking operations very sophisticated and has reduced errors to almost nil, which were somewhat prevalent with manual human activities. Banks are adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase their efficiency and profits. With the emergence of Internet banking, self-service tools have replaced the traditional methods of banking.

You can now access your money, handle transactions like paying bills, money transfers, and online purchases from merchants, and monitor your bank statements anytime and from anywhere in the world. Technology has made banking more secure and safe. You do not need to carry cash in your pocket or wallet; the payments can be made digitally using e-wallets. Mobile banking, banking apps, and cybersecurity are changing the face of the banking industry.

Manufacturing and Production Industry Automation:

At present, manufacturing industries are using all the latest technologies, ranging from big data analytics to artificial intelligence. Big data, ARVR (Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality), and IoT (Internet of Things) are the biggest manufacturing industry players. Technology in the Healthcare Industry:

Technological advancements in the healthcare industry have not only improved our personal quality of life and longevity; they have also improved the lives of many medical professionals and students who are training to become medical experts. It has allowed much faster access to the medical records of each patient.

The Internet has drastically transformed patients' and doctors’ relationships. Everyone can stay up to date on the latest medical discoveries, share treatment information, and offer one another support when dealing with medical issues. Modern technology has allowed us to contact doctors from the comfort of our homes. There are many sites and apps through which we can contact doctors and get medical help.

Breakthrough innovations in surgery, artificial organs, brain implants, and networked sensors are examples of transformative developments in the healthcare industry. Hospitals use different tools and applications to perform their administrative tasks, using digital marketing to promote their services.

Technology in Agriculture:

Today, farmers work very differently than they would have decades ago. Data analytics and robotics have built a productive food system. Digital innovations are being used for plant breeding and harvesting equipment. Software and mobile devices are helping farmers harvest better. With various data and information available to farmers, they can make better-informed decisions, for example, tracking the amount of carbon stored in soil and helping with climate change.

Disadvantages of Technology:

People have become dependent on various gadgets and machines, resulting in a lack of physical activity and tempting people to lead an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Even though technology has increased the productivity of individuals, organisations, and the nation, it has not increased the efficiency of machines. Machines cannot plan and think beyond the instructions that are fed into their system. Technology alone is not enough for progress and prosperity. Management is required, and management is a human act. Technology is largely dependent on human intervention.

Computers and smartphones have led to an increase in social isolation. Young children are spending more time surfing the internet, playing games, and ignoring their real lives. Usage of technology is also resulting in job losses and distracting students from learning. Technology has been a reason for the production of weapons of destruction.

Dependency on technology is also increasing privacy concerns and cyber crimes, giving way to hackers.

The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom

Technology has always been at the forefront of human education. From the days of carving figures on rock walls to today, when most students are equipped with several portable technological devices at any given time, technology continues to push educational capabilities to new levels. In looking at where educational methods and tools have come from to where they are going in the future, technology’s importance in the classroom is evident now more than ever.

A History of Classroom Technology: The Primitive Classroom

In the Colonial years, wooden paddles with printed lessons, called Horn-Books, were used to assist students in learning verses. Over 200 years later, in 1870, technology advanced to include the Magic Lantern, a primitive version of a slide projector that projected images printed on glass plates. By the time World War I ended, around 8,000 lantern slides were circulating through the Chicago public school system. By the time the Chalkboard came around in 1890, followed by the pencil in 1900, it was clear that students were hungry for more advanced educational tools.

  • Radio in the 1920s sparked an entirely new wave of learning; on-air classes began popping up for any student within listening range.
  • Next came the overhead projector in 1930, followed by the ballpoint pen in 1940 and headphones in 1950.
  • Videotapes arrived on the scene in 1951, creating a new and exciting method of instruction.
  • The Skinner Teaching Machine produced a combined system of teaching and testing, providing reinforcement for correct answers so that the student can move on to the next lesson.
  • The photocopier (1959) and handheld calculator (1972) entered the classrooms next, allowing for mass production of material on the fly and quick mathematical calculations.
  • The Scantron system of testing, introduced by Michael Sokolski n 1972, allowed educators to grade tests more quickly and efficiently.

The pre-computer years were formative in the choices made for computers in the years following. Immediate response-type systems (video, calculator, Scantron) had become necessary, and quick production of teaching materials, using the photocopier, had become a standard. The U.S. Department of Education reports that high school enrollment was only 10% in 1900, but by 1992 had expanded to 95%. The number of students in college in 1930 was around 1 million, but by 2012 had grown to a record 21.6 million. Teachers needed new methods of instruction and testing, and students were looking for new ways to communicate, study, and learn.

The Entrance and Significance of Personal Computers

Although the first computers were developed in the ‘30s, everyday-use computers were introduced in the ‘80s. The first portable computer, in 1981, weighed 24 pounds and cost $1,795. When IBM introduced its first personal computer in 1981, the educational world knew that it was on the verge of greatness. Time magazine named The Computer its “ Man of the Year ” in 1982, and aptly so: the foundation of immediate learning capabilities had been laid. Time declared, “it is the end result of a technological revolution that has been in the making for four decades and is now, quite literally, hitting home.”

  • Toshiba released its first mass-market consumer laptop in 1985 (the T1100), and Apple’s infamous Mac (which later evolved into the Powerbook) was available starting in 1984.
  • In 1990, The World Wide Web was given life when a British researcher developed Hyper Text Markup Language, or HTML, and when the National Science Foundation (NSF) removed restrictions on the commercial use of the Internet in 1993, the world exploded into a frenzy of newfound research and communication methods.
  • The first Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) were released by Apple Computer Inc. in 1993, and with that, computers were a part of every day, if not every moment. By 2009, 97% of classrooms had one or more computers , and 93% of classroom computers had Internet access. For every 5 students, there was one computer. Instructors stated that 40% of students used computers often in their educational methods, in addition to interactive whiteboards and digital cameras. College students nowadays are rarely without some form of computer technology: 83% own a laptop, and over 50% have a Smartphone.

The Future of Technology in the Classroom

It seems like years since MySpace, first introduced in 2003, Facebook (2004) and Twitter (2007) have changed both the communication and business worlds. Instant connectivity has branched out from merely a tool of personal communication, to a platform for educational instruction and outreach. Social media is now being recognized as an accepted form of instruction in some instances, and groups such as Scholastic Teachers provide excellent support and tips for instructors. Many instructors use social media to communicate directly with their students, or to form forum-style groups for students to communicate with each other, and the method seems to be proving valuable in providing one-on-one attention to student’s questions and concerns.

With the classroom having already evolved into a hotbed of technological advances, what can the future possibly hold that could further educational proficiencies even more?

  • Biometrics, a technology that recognizes people based on certain physical or behavioral traits, is on the technological horizon. The science will be used to recognize the physical and emotional disposition of students in the classroom, altering course material to tailor to each individual’s needs based on biometric signals.
  • A second up-and-coming technology is Augmented Reality (AR) glasses , rumored to be on Google’s release list, and this technology could be a whole new world for education. AR Glasses (or even contact lenses) will layer data on top of what we naturally see, to allow for a real-world learning experience. For example, a student wearing AR Glasses could potentially sit at his desk and have a conversation with Thomas Edison about invention. It was Edison, after all, who said that “Books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye.”
  • Multi-touch surfaces are commonly used through equipment such as the iPhone, but the technology could become more relevant to education through entirely multi-touch surfaces, such as desks or workstations. This could allow students to collaborate with other students, even those around the world, and videos and other virtual tools could be streamed directly to the surface.

Educators and the Evolution of Technology in the Classroom

With the evolution of technology, educational capabilities are growing and changing every day. The Internet is a vast electronic library of information, and both research and instruction can be achieved through a click of the mouse. With these advances come new responsibilities to the instructor and therefore increase the value of a Master of Science in Education in Learning Design and Technology. As technology advances, an educator’s abilities will grow by leaps and bounds, and without the knowledge of these changes and capabilities, an instructor has a good chance of being left behind.

A career in education requires hard work and dedication, but, for the diligent educator, can prove very rewarding. For those who are serious about success in the education field, staying well-informed of current and changing technologies is imperative. As the world of technology evolves, the learning environment, both on-campus and online, will equally progress, and the need for teachers who are educated in technology and design will continue to grow.

Election latest: Starmer avoids weighing in on US election - as minister admits 'none of' polls look good for Sunak

Sir Keir Starmer has distanced himself from a Labour colleague's previous criticism of Donald Trump, after a good night at a TV debate for the former US president. Earlier, the education secretary admitted to Sky News "none of" the polls were looking good for the Tories.

Our live poll tracker collates the results of opinion surveys carried out by all the main polling organisations - and allows you to see how the political parties are performing in the run-up to the general election.

With under a week to go, the Tories and Labour have taken a drop, while support for Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats is on the rise.

During his BBC radio interview, Sir Keir Starmer said the tax-free withdrawal of lump sums from pensions would lapse in two or three years.

Labour have since clarified the leader was talking about something else.

A party spokesperson said: "The ability to withdraw 25% of your pension as tax-free lump sum is a permanent feature of the tax system and Labour are not planning to change this.

"Keir was referring to temporary tax breaks in the system that are due to expire and which the public finances assume will not continue, like increasing the stamp duty threshold for first-time buyers from £300,000 to £425,000."

The final question put to Sir Keir Starmer during his BBC interview is whether he will resign if he loses the election badly.

He simply responds "yes".

Considering his party is 20 points ahead in the polls, it is not immediately clear what a "bad" loss would equate to.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is wrapping up his interview with callers on BBC radio.

He clashes with one caller - Jane - about access to women's spaces.

The caller pushes Sir Keir on whether biological men will be allowed access to women's spaces if he becomes prime minister.

The Labour leader is repeatedly cut off by the caller when he references his past work on violence against women and girls.

Jane says that 51% of the population need to be listened to, rather than a small number of biological men.

The Labour leader says he does not want to allow a "toxic" discussion to take place - and people who do not identify as their birth gender are often "traumatised".

He does not commit to saying that biological men will not be allowed access to women's spaces - but says he will protect women.

Sir Keir Starmer is asked on the BBC about Nigel Farage - and it is put to him whether the Reform UK leader is racist.

The Labour leader says he doesn't want "call him names".

He does say, however, that comments which have come from Reform UK campaigners are racist, and condemns them.

You can read more about that below:

Speaking on BBC radio, Sir Keir Starmer is asked about the tax-free lump sums people can take from their pensions.

According to Hargreaves Lansdown, "this applies to the tax-free element of certain lump sums, capped at £268,275  - amounts exceeding this allowance are taxed at your marginal rate".

Sir Keir says: "It runs out in a number of years, and we're not going to renew it."

He then says, however, that Labour would review the plans in two or three years when they come up for renewal.

This, Sir Keir says, is not something he can promise now due to the economic conditions.

Labour later clarified the leader of the party was talking about a different policy.

A spokesperson said: "The ability to withdraw 25% of your pension as tax-free lump sum is a permanent feature of the tax system and Labour are not planning to change this.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is speaking on BBC radio to callers.

But the interview begins with questions about the debate in the US overnight - for which Joe Biden has been criticised.

Sir Keir says he has "enough on his plate" with his own election campaign.

But he says he will work with "whoever is president".

The Labour leader praises the "historic" nature of the relationship between the UK and the US.

And he says he doesn't think it would be "helpful" to comment on the contest on the other side of the pond.

Asked about previous comments shadow foreign secretary David Lammy made about Donald Trump - which were extremely critical - Sir Keir distances himself from the remarks.

SNP leader John Swinney is speaking to broadcasters this morning.

As a member of the Scottish parliament, he is not standing for election this month.

He has implored voters in Scotland to support his party to face up to what he says is an inevitable Labour win.

Exclusive polling for Sky News carried out by YouGov shows Labour is currently on 35%  in Scotland, compared to 29% for the SNP - a slight narrowing in the gap ( read more here ).

Mr Swinney says: "I think the election essentially has been decided in England.

"The Labour Party has a commanding lead over the Conservatives south of the border, and it's a certainty that Keir Starmer is going to become the next prime minister.

"But in Scotland, there's a hotly contested election between the SNP and the Labour Party.

"If they want to make sure that decisions about Scotland are made in Scotland for Scotland, then they've got to vote for the SNP because it's only SNP votes and SNP voices in the House of Commons that will hold the Labour government to account, given that they're going to win hands down in England."

Shadow chief secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones is out for Labour this morning.

Speaking to Sky News, he is asked about Labour's financial plans - especially with the tax burden at a 70-year-high.

Mr Jones says that, if his party wins, they will "inherit the country as it is - not as we might like it".

The situation on tax thresholds is put to the Labour man.

By keeping the levels at which people go up income tax bands frozen, more and more people end up paying higher taxes as wages naturally increase.

This effect has been dubbed a "stealth tax rise", and has led to greater proportions of people paying higher income tax rates than previously.

Mr Jones says: "We would like to unfreeze them, but of course we have to be able to afford to do so.

"And we've not done that at this point in the election because the money's not available right now to be able to do that.

"And that's why when you point to the Conservative Party's promise to change thresholds for certain voters, it's very clear that that's not a promise that anyone can believe, because the money's not there to pay for that commitment"

Sky News' deputy political editor Sam Coates and Politico's Jack Blanchard are here with their guide to the election day ahead.

This is day 39 of the campaign.

Jack and Sam talk about the leaders' final weekend, they discuss how Reform are continuing to be in the headlines, and following the Trump vs Biden debate, they look at the rest of the world, including the upcoming French election.
